What is going on??? 19/09/2016 at 09:31 #85116

Hi all,

I am just wondering what is going on?

Just got back off holiday, and now none of my sims are usable. I normally only activate the sim i am using, and leave all the others unactivated, in case i want to use a different computer, for instance if i want to chain sims at home. Now the license manager won't let me log in - i just get unspecified error 11.

In addition, i bought Leeds Ardsley and NW as well as Coastway East, and can't even download the sim files.

After the farce that was the initial release of Edge Hill (which still has issues, BTW), this is becoming quite annoying.

If we pay good money, isn't it right to expect a decent level of availability of the simulations which we have licensed?

I would suggest rolling back to the loader and site that actually work, however outdated they may be, until the new site actually has been tested might not be a bad idea.

I am trying to remain as constructive as i can without being offensive - but frustration is a word that is sorely lacking in expressing just how i feel at the moment.

Please, please, please get over this rough patch that SimSig seems to be going through, and return to your normally high standards.

Hi Izzy,

The license manager has only gone down this morning, whilst GeoffM works to fix issues with a small number of licenses not working correctly after the database transition. Please bear with him, it's certainly not done deliberately to effect the end users, and we all appreciate how frustrating it can be for you.

The loader isn't actually the problem, so rolling back that would do nothing.

The new site was tested in the background, unfortunately there's only so much we can test without actually going live with all the data, rest assured GeoffM and the team are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issues.

On a side note I think this is the first time since the loader and license manager was released that there's been any sort of outage, compared to my experiences with Steam, I think the up-time is pretty good.

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I am sure this isn't done deliberately, i just needed to comment that problems seem to be sneaking in a bit more than usual recently.
I recognise we are all human, and that problems will happen from time to time. I am just a little concerned, especially with the fact that everything now needs online connections to work (except a lot of the really old sims that i still have) that standards might be starting to slip.

Although i am not a great fan of the licensing method used now, i respect that this is how Geoff and the others retain the control over their work - and the work is normally good enough to warrant the nuisance factor of the licensing system. But it does make SimSig very vulnerable to server/connection problems, and the resulting frustrations that will inevitably result.

To be fair, once you have assigned a licence to your machine for a particular sim, the sim won’t ever need to connect to the Internet again (unless you want to update it or join/host a multiplayer; for obvious reasons). It’s only if you are assigning and releasing licences regularly that you’ll get problems when the server is down (don’t misunderstand me, I know why you have to do that, and, normally, it’s a good idea if you simulate on multiple systems, but it’s the reason you’re having a few problems at the moment).

Not a dig, just sharing information. I hope it’s resolved soon so you’re able to get back to simulating!

Good luck!

Access to the license manager was restored around 12:30 BST.

I gave up yesterday, but thanks for letting us know it's back. The license manager at least.

Karl the issue regarding the licence for Birmingham New Street still isn't working. After treading your post stating that the licence manager issue has been resolved I just opened the loader removed the licence for New Street & re-allocated it to this PC & when I opened it I still get the message stating that I don't have a relevant licence for that sim. However I've been doing some timetable work on this sim for a few days now & it apopears to be saving the changes I've made to the timetable despite the warning message when the sim opens. Can't remember whether you can edit the timetable whilst in demo mode or not? But in any event I pause the sim on start up anyway, & the changes are being saved.
