Due to the complexity of Central Scotland and that there is no TRTS etc, I decided to add warning sounds for trains stuck at red lights. The sounds I used was really annoying so I decided to remove it. To my dismay I found I couldn't. If you untick the "Play Sounds" option then it is ignored and the sound still plays. If you remove the file path and name and save and reload the game then the file path and name is still there. In the end I had to mute all sounds on my PC.

To my horror I found that if you allocate a sound to one sim then it automatically transfers to other sims and now I have the same problem with Edinburgh etc.

I hope this can be fixed soon as I often like to play some back ground music while operating a sim!

A total stab in the candlelit dark but try remembering which simulation you had originally set the sounds on and try unsetting them from that.

Unlikely to be the case, I know, but who knows it could solve it.

I can not understand why if you untick the sound, the sound is still played.

(from what I remember the sound -and message- for trains holding at red signal is meant only for client(s) in multiplayer. This was created in older simulation when the call where not directed to the client, but only the server were aware).

As far as I know the sound configuration is shared among every simulation.

If every other attempts fail, you can try to use the following brute force strategy (note that I have not tested it)

rename the file sound (so that the sims will not be able to find it and play it)
if you use the same sound for some other event(s), change the configuration so that this/these event(s) are associate to the new file name.

P.S.
I have forgotten to tell you the most important thing. If you want the sound not to be played, you have to untick the box next to "play sound". (the disable box is to suppress completely the message, and the disable option is available for some messages only. You can not disable some messages).

Everything you modify under the options is a generic modification not sim specific. If you are still getting the sound then perhaps you modified the wrong option.

You must still have the "play sound" option still ticked for some messages. I've checked the code and it definitely checks for that tick before playing any sounds. And having a known set of messages either ticked or unticked, closing, and reopening results in the same set ticked.

I notice that the filename cannot be cleared; however, if the option is not ticked then the filename is ignored anyway so it's not a problem.

It's been the same for the last 12 years. They are global options that apply to all simulations. Not sure why it should be such a horror. A bit melodramatic?

If you heard the sound, you'd know why I call it a horror :)

I found the problem - It was a general telephone message not a red signal that was calling. I had forgotten that I had allocated the same annoying noice to that call type too. Unticking now clear the noise...silence is golden!

Thanks for your help!
