James, do you know what Scalable v2 does over the previous version? Do you know how much downtime a workstation needs to perform the upgrade?

Changes the interface slightly, both in terms of how it looks and how the signalman interacts with it (mouse and standard keyboard vs trackball and special keyboard).

As for downtime requirements; not aware of the specifics, but the engineers possession to do the work was 12hrs "wheels free" on Sunday morning.

Thanks for the info James. Was that work responsible for the overrun on Sunday which caused the trains to be chaotic after lunchtime?

How many workstations will be in TVSC when the migrations are complete?

There were unrelated issues with the possession which prevented a timely handback. The migration was successful.

The ultimate extent of TVSC is still a bit unknown; there are at least 2, more likely 3 workstations still to go in.

It's stretching the definition of "Thames Valley" to include bits of Bristol Panel :)

Presumably there is a physical limit. Certainly from the outside it doesn't look very big - when compared to Rugby or 3 Bridges. I presume that TOC staff and control won't move into TVSC. Are they in Slough now?

TOC control is where I work. We're "integrated" with Network Rail in Western Region control in Swindon.

There are some whispers that we might be moving to Didcot, it's all tied in with how many workstations end up in there.

Hi There,

I am one of the screen designer who worked on the Upgraded workstation screens for the Paddington - Slough upgrade. for Resonate (formally DeltaRail,AEA technology etc).

The new workstations, as above, use a mouse and keyboard for input. Some features I like are using a 'drag and drop' box to apply engineering possessions / Traction isolations, having standard computer functions like search (for any signalling object or headcode) drop down right click boxes for doing all sorts of signalling things, being able to pan and zoom the display.

Also, the workstations are linked together by a middleware, allowing signallers to see the other workstations areas of lookback on their own workstation. On a classic IECC, this would just be headcodes (TD maps) but on scalable V2 the middleware can supply non-controllable, full signalling information. The idea is that at some point all of the ROC signallers will be able to have large areas of the route on their workstation, so they can see whats going on at critical regulation points. Currently this is limited to a few 10's of signal sections.

Hope that helps but i am happy to answer questions. I do want to get down to TVSC to see it in action myself :-)

While at the Bristol end of Platform 4 while awaiting 1C20 from Swindon on 24th November I saw that there is a display screen which shows the signal aspects. Displays in sync with TVSC as well as I saw one or two of the signals change as I was looking at it. Better than the display in the subway at Bristol Temple Meads though.

Picture attached.

Are you on the 'London End'? How does the 'ROC' enviroment compare to West Hampstead?

I'm on Link 2, the Reading side.

Certainly very different with the work managing ARS instead of regulating every train. Took a week or so to stop feeling 'disconnected' from the trains by going from NX to a mouse & keyboard. However, loving the change and new challenges.

Does anyone happen to know what the rough workstation boundaries are in TVSC?
