It is always a join when I play sims and get a Crossing failure. I have lately been playing Cambridge and yet had a crossing failure. But I am unsure what to do. In real life, I would presume trains could be flagged, or the crossing is manually controlled. Any ideas?

Caution trains normally. There's often a Level Crossings Attendant sent out there too who can operate the crossing manually, or electrically overriding some of the usual interlocking controls - all under the supervision of the controlling Signaller. So in game, would that count as asking driver to examine the track and pass signal at danger or just passing the signal at danger?

Indeed, pass signal at Danger, and not to pass over the crossing unless it is safe to do so, ie clear, / or a green handsignal from the attendant if there is one. When a motorist rings to say 'can I cross' the answer is NO, if a Police Officer says, I am here, I can wave traffic over, if there are no trains, the answer is NO ! Log in to reply |

Within SimSig you wouldn't do anything with an AHB "failure" as the only time it should show failed is if the barriers have been down for too long due to a very slow train or a train not having cleared the crossing before stopping for signals etc.

The best solution in Simsig: 1. Stop all trains at the protecting signal. 2. Instruct the driver to Examine the Line when he calls. 3. Clear the signal. 4. He will call back from the next signal. By instructing the driver to examine the line you will keep him to a slower speed as if you had cautioned him in reality. Just to be aware though, JC92 is right about the causes of a crossing failure in Simsig, which are substantially lower in number than the things that could cause a real AHB to fail. One of the main causes of a failure alarm is when a train takes too long to travel from the strike in point (generally 10 seconds before the crossing shows working) to the crossing itself. By instructing the train to examine the line you will extend this time which might stop the crossing from resetting. You may be better to just run the next train in greens to remove the failed alarm.
