Dear everyone,

Hello I name is Yuuji Izumo, a Japanese from Hong Kong and I've just played SimSig for few months. I would like to have an enquirey about the issue of SimSig Hong Kong simulation.

The reason that why I would talk about Hong Kong Simsig simulation is because we actually sharing the same system with UK. As you may know Hong Kong was British Colony besides Hong Kong people are using British-issued passport even in nowadays, rail system in Hong Kong also looks similar to UK.

We do have two types of railway, one was called MTR - Tube liked underground rail and the other one is KCR - national rail liked suburban rail services. (Althouth they were merged since 2007, however operations were still no change at all) The KCR East Rail was electrified in 1982-1983, what we are riding from that time until today was manufactured by Metro-cammell that used GEC motor and parts same of Class 317 . Besides that...everything like Westinghouse Style 63 point machine, the same ATP system on GWML, signaling lights made by GEC can also be found in both England and Hong Kong. And the most important is the attachment you can see we do have the same IECC user interface layout made by Alstom. Therefore I usually called it as "East Rail Main Line" just because it was totally a British Railway appeared in Hong Kong and we do have Intercity, freight trains, parcels trains also besides local services !

So that's why I would like to let the ERCC (East Rail Control Center) appear on the desktop again like what SimSig does. And I got all material that SimSig need - Track layout, full timetable, length of Intercity / EMU / Freight Trains. And I would like to ask for developer or everyone's opinion or comments on how to create a SimSig simulation from 0 to 1 and your suggestion for creating such a SimSig simulation.

Best Wishes
Yuuji

Yuuji,

When you say that you have a track layout, does that include things like the exact locations of the signals and pointwork and where the track circuit boundaries are? We need more than just a diagram of the tracks.

In relation to Yuuji message, I noted he attached a file. How do you access this file or view it?

Living in HK myself, whilst I would love something like this I can't help thinking it would be a tad boring as there is not a huge number of things to do really. Most services run along dedicated lines with little or no interaction between them. OK the Airport Express and Tung Chung lines do share some track between Hong Kong & Kowloon; between Tsing Yi & Sunny Bay and Sunny Bay & Siu Ho Wan not to mention the Mainland stuff sharing the Hung Hom - Lo Wu line. The busiest time would be getting things out onto the system for the morning and evening peaks and back again afterwards. Each line has it's own depot except I think the Ma On Shan trains which get serviced at Fotan depot on the East Rail line.
The KCR East Rail line (I know it is now all MTR but I still call this bit the KCR) Hung Hom - Lo Wu does use 4 aspect signal heads but more often than not there is only a separate blue light lit to indicate automatic train control is in use. Also the Ma On Shan line from Tai Wai to Wu Kai Sha is the only railway here that runs "wrong line" i.e. drives on the right.
All in all it is a fascinating system out here that runs flawlessly for the most part, if there ever were a simulation of this I'm sure I could fix that quite easily...

It certainly does sound like an interesting idea and something a little bit different and I believe that someone I know would have a keen interest in it themselves too however of course if there is a problem of needing to actually go to Hong Kong to do the research then, sadly, I can see it not happening unless seriously cheap flights and accommodation could be found/arranged. Still, certainly an interesting idea!

Assuming you're using IE, right click and open it in a new tab or window. If you're using a different browser then it should have a similar/same option, albeit possibly differently worded.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Thanks Uk, i'm using IE8. It will not allow me to open/read the file. Do you know the setting to fix it?

TIA

Actually my Firefox "refuse" to let me open that attachment, then I could only drag the photo into the place you type hyperlink. Then you can have a full view of photo .

Well actually me and some ffriends designes some sceneriao which will really happen in real life to make it fun.
Don't assue the line will always fun normally. And in fact if you have some time to observe the line you will found that manually set route is the always best way to reduce delay on East Rail Line.

Finally, the reson I would like to have a East Rail line SimSig is because other lines have Automatic Train Regulation and those comouter controller SICP. or WRL/MOL is using somewhat moving block seltrac like dockland light railway, then only line have something like SimSig or same of SimSig is East Rail Line.

And I would like to have an enquirey to the SimSig developing team is can we do it from 0 to 1. As I understand SimSig development team are having heavy workload.

Does clicking here work for you? That link works fine for me on Google Chrome so I'm hoping it'd work for you too.

Don't know why I didn't just post that link in the first place! ::

Yuuji,

Could you please email me the track diagram or, if it's large, an extract from it? That will give me a better idea of how practical it will be to build a simulation from it. Once we know that, we can see if there's a developer able to take on the work.

My email is < clive AT SimSig . co . uk >.

So... given that this post is already two years old and I didn't heard of any progress, does this mean the SimSig developing team has already abandoned the idea of making a sim for Hong Kong?

Like all the progress you heard about Carlisle, SHumbs, Worksop, etc before they were released?

Don't know, never noticed those progress for those sims.

Just looking for a few words from developers stating that they are already working on it?

I will be willing to help some work on it (e.g. taking photos, etc...), but as I don't work for the MTR/former KCR, I have no restricted docs and I certainly won't ask MTR "officially"/directly for information. Yuuji (MM21) should be able to provide information for developers though. (I believe he does work inside)

BTW, Yuuji (MM21)'s last visit was 30 Jun 2012, so he's still visiting this forum, though not frequently. Never seen any extra posts from him though. (In some Hong Kong forums this is referred as "CD-ROM", readonly :P)

For anyone interested there are some trackplans available at

http://www.hkrailway.org/mtrtrack.gif

This is not a complete diagram as the East Rail, West Rail and Ma On Shan lines are not included. Not much use for developing a sim I know, just adding it for anyone interested.

There are a few extensions and new lines on the way over the next few years too.

If you have heard nothing, then this means that either nobody is working on it, or that someone is working on it but doesn't yet want to announce it.

Track diagram:

http://mtr.hk365day.com/Railway/Special/track/MTR_track_diagram_full.pdf

This is a more recent and more complete one.

Note that this is not always accurate and definitely not geographically accurate.

And attached some quick view of the ERCC (East Rail Control Centre), two are older ones.

Post has attachments. Log in to view them.
