Why does ARS treat trains with a TD containing the letter 'X' in a special way? While playing around with the 'Peterborough 2017 Austerity' timetable, I found that all trains with 'X' in the TD are reported by ARS as 'Entered off planned path & made non-ARS', even though they are on the planned path. The trains can't be made ARS for some reason, which means that they get ignored by the Peterborough 'Gate Box ARS' mode of Level-Crossing control, which is a bit of a pain. Can anyone offer an explanation, please. Log in to reply |

Thanks for the info, James. I thought there'd be a simple explanation. I'll just have to work the LC's manually.

The page gives some information which is interesting with reference to Peterborough. The White Rose services from Kings Cross to Leeds were given 1Xnn train descriptions. This is from the period in the mid to late 1990's when GNER was hiring surplus Eurostar sets to give extra capacity between London and York/Leeds. Because of the length of the sets they could only be routed to certain platforms in Leeds so were given 1Xnn headcodes to remind the signallers at Leeds. Despite that there was at least one occasion (I have a hazy memory it was actually reported by the errant signaller on the old SimSig Forum) when the train was signalled into a wrong platfom completely locking up the West End of the station until arrangements could be made to shunt it to the correct platform. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Lyn-Greenwood |
