Would it be a good idea to modify multiplayer to allow the Signaller that has the panel to operate the ground frame? lots of hassle (particularly with chains) with waiting for hosts to see the message requesting the points to be operated.

It's been discussed before but in simple terms, the idea is that the signaller is the signaller and has to liaise with the host as the ground frame operator. Otherwise it detracts from the realism too much, in my opinion.

Host may need to delegate other tasks (or sims as hosts) if overloaded.

Could it be made an option that the host can select whether THEY retain full-control of GFs, or hand them over to the relevant panel operators?

We were waiting 20-30mins for our non-returning host to use groundframes....to the point that it all became a big mess and left!

I would look at the apparent XY problem first! (Host disappearing)

The posted link to the XY problem very clearly lays out the cause of the problem and potential solutions but offers no real solution in this circumstance because the potential solutions all require interaction with the missing host. On that analysis, the only option available to the player facing the reported situation is binning everything that has gone before and dropping out of the session. Not very satisfactory if you have spent some time trying to run a panel in the correct manner. The remedial action after that is to fall out with the host or not join any further sessions with the same host but doesn't solve the short-term problem.

Looking at the previous comment ("It's been discussed before but in simple terms, the idea is that the signaller is the signaller and has to liaise with the host as the ground frame operator. However if that is a real concern, is the realistic liaison from the signaller on the panel with the driver or the box controller?

Putting it simply, why is it legitimate in a solo session to release the GFs after an assessment of the situation or a phone call from the driver whereas it detracts from the realism in a multiplay unless the assessment of the situation or phone call from the driver requires action from the box controller rather than the signaller on the panel?

A disappearing host is going to be a problem for a whole host (sorry) of things.

One disussion

There would be discussions between the signaller and the ground frame operator, whether by phone or radio, and to a varying degree depending on the ground frame.

There's only so much a simulation can do in solo play. Multiplayer makes things much more interesting by involving other people, and relying on them to do their jobs properly.

Apologies; failed to remember that discussion.

However, having re-read the thread I don't think that discussion actually resolved the justification for a multiplay host to be involved in ground frame release. Presumably (and backed up by that discussion) the ground frame operator will be a shunter or member of the train crew. What is the justification for the decision to give a task to the host in a totally artificial manner rather than accepting what happens in single play where the GF is released by the signaller after due process? And how is something unsupported in real life part of relying on a host "to do their job properly"?

All of this is as academic as "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" in any event if we actively want to find a way round for those sitting at a panel who have been let down by their host but who do not want to see hours of game time wasted.
