Just had an intriguing problem with a train timetabled to leave the area at Westerton.

The train in question is 1Y11, the Fort William down sleeper. It passed through the area with no issues, and apparently left; but then I noticed that the "Westerton Approach" train describer was lit up with "****". Along came an undescribed train, and I stopped it at the first signal (CE314) to find out what it was: 1Y11. Apparently, instead of leaving the area, it had turned around and come back again!

This may be a game-saving issue: I had saved the game at around the time 1Y11 would have left, then restarted it. I'm not completely sure, though. Certainly seems like a bit of a strange one.

At the same time, I also noticed "****" appear in the describer for the Gartcosh siding. However, there doesn't seem to have been an actual train there.

Strange that, I had the same thing happen to me at Gartcosh sidings too, **** randomly interposing itself for no apparent reason.

I've also only just signalled 1Y11 and sent it off the simulation at Westerton.

The Gartcosh one is a known bug that Peter has corrected ready for the next refresh of the sim.

Is this Westerton thing a one-off aboration or a regular problem?

I did a quick test of the 1Y11 problem and can I please confirm that in the original post, 1Y11 was routed correctly via Falkirk Grahamston, Cumbernauld & Springburn? The reason I ask is that on testing if you route 1Y11 correctly then it always leaves the sim at Westerton. However if you wrongly route the train via the E&G line, i.e. through Falrkirk High, Croy & Lenzie then the train location on the pop-up menu when you click it's TD does not change past Greenhill Lower Jn and upon reaching Westerton will change it's direction to 'up' and re-enter as "****" on the up line. If routed wrongly the '1Y11' will disappear from the sim at Westerton but the "****" will re-appear a few moments later.

I think this scenario is similar to what happens if you wrongly route 5B05 as mentioned in a different thread.

Hope this helps.

For some reason all the exiting trains have a stop which if they did not then the specific problem should go away.

The matter of timetable stepping is really an user issue for which f2 provides a solution. I have added code in some places that will step the timetable but this can not cover every eventuality because of the number routings that can be followed so should not be relied upon; though I'd have thought that one should have been catered for. I'll try and add something to the WIKI but I can't get in at the moment.

Thanks

Peter

The Fort William sleepers really do stop at Westerton. Connecting trains to/from Queen St are provided there.

I've completely forgotten, now, whether I'd routed 1Y11 correctly or not; but that almost certainly is what caused it.

And In think it's almost certainly a factor here, and not elsewhere, simply because the Perth line Up/Down directions are the opposite of the rest of the Sim. As far as I'm aware all the trains involved have no intermediate stops, I suspect if they did they may also reverse at that point. Just a hunch.
