Leading on from the telephone calls thread, and also from the incident panel in the Scottish sims I would suggest being able to put line blocks into the timetable.

Not only would this allow the timetable (eg ballast trains) to be synchronised to possessions but it would enable users to create a scenario, not just the sim author. Currently the best we can do is a slow moving train or hard 'parking' at permitted locations. Another example of where this could be useful is blocking of Cowlairs chord for the 1993 & 1984 timetables.

In text mode this might look like :
0300 BLOK T123 T456 T789
Occupies those TC's from 0300 and inserts TD 'BLOK'
Then
0820 UNBLOK T123 T456 T789
clears them.

For the sim editor, I suppose it could be entered in a similar way to rules.

A nice idea perhaps however this may result in the train calling up at a red signal and having to be told to wait 15 minutes for signal to clear before phoning back. Although not too much of a problem as it would open happen around 4 times every hour, on a busy panel this could just make things complex.

AFAIK, this doesn't occur when using the Incident Control Panel as it's only occupying the track circuit (like a Track Circuit Failure).

Of course I could be wrong on this, so I'd welcome being correct if this is the case.

Yes, the timetabler would have to deal with the phone issue. they would need to be at a location and 'ruled' not to call in using a 'must not depart for *** minutes', or moving slowly.
I'm thinking that you could send ballast trains to an area where you've blocked the lines already, then let them in (PSAD) run them slowly, and PSAD the other end too.

Or we could just wait for the next releases in all the sims and add a note that the host/playert must set the following TCs: <list of TCs> to occupied for the timetable to work etc.

For a lock lasting the whole sim, that might be acceptable but i think that if the blocks are time bound then it would be preferable to have them in the timetable if that is achieveable without excessive effort.
It would save any problems with typos in a list of blocked TC's too.
