So I'm currently sat on the 15:25 New Cross Gate to Dalston Junction. Let's see what all the fuss is about!

Arrived on time, apparently!

Looks like every 15 minutes to/from New Cross, and the same to/from New Cross Gate, for the moment at least.

It's a bit shiny! The 1:43 gradient into/out of Dalston Junc seems a bit steep. And the lack of doors between carriages is rather disconcerting!

EDIT: 16:12
Just got off at Shoreditch High Street after going via Dalston. All seems well so far.
I was speaking to some LOROL staff on the 15:25 New Cross Gate to Dalston Junc, and apparantly someone got on to the platforms at Haggerston before the 12:00 opening time, and when the test train stopped there, he managed to get a lift to Dalston. Therefore the 12:05 service from New Cross Gate was not actually the first passenger service!

The furthest any of the ELL trains will travel on the NLL is to Highbury & Islington, on their own ELL tracks. As there are only 3rd Rail units on the ELL, they won't be able to run on the resignalled Overhead NLL. And the layout after the NLL resignalling doesn't lend itself well to easy transfer from NLL to ELL.

The service on the ELL going South to West Croydon and Crystal Palace starts on 23rd May. The Highbury & Islington extension opens in 2011, and the take-over of the South London Line (removing the Victoria to London Bridge service via Denmark Hill) to Clapham Jn apparantly occurs in 2012.

Haven't mention much about this yet but I actually got to see Shoreditch High Street station earlier this month with someone else (they're registered here so I will let them 'reveal' themselves if they so wish to) and it didn't look too bad. Sadly couldn't take any photos except maybe one of me against the station sign which I, perhaps stupidly, didn't do but yeah I got to see the station anyway (kinda felt a bit privileged :P) and it didn't look too bad. Reminded me a bit of the area leading to the FCC Platforms at St Pancras - quite a wide, open spaced area.

It's nice to know (with thanks to the BBC) that the trains can take around 700 people each so that should help a bit when there are any events going on at The o2 Arena which isn't overly far away, I think.

Personally I decided against going there myself to see the opening due to reasons I'd rather not mention right now.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Trotted off the other day to do the line- turned into a bit of a farce- caught an early train in to Finsbury Park- changed to the Moorgate line intending to go to Highbury and it failed at Drayton Park- went back to FP and the Victoria line had major disruption. Went to work....(via the Piccadilly). Afternoon- took Jubilee Line to Canada Water (I think it is) - to New Cross and then to Dalston only to find the NLL was closed till June so it was a bus to Highbury.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

I have a (admittidly poor quality) photo of the network as shown on the ELL Trains.

And a sketch of the ELL plus extensions...

And the TfL London Overground Network

FYI - ELL Headcodes

All trains are Class 9 (9_**)

A = Dalston Jn to Crystal Palace
B = Crystal Palace to Dalston Jn
C = Dalston Jn to West Croydon
D = West Croydon to Dalston Jn
E = Dalston Jn to New Cross
F = New Coss to Dalston Jn
G = Dalston Jn to New Cross Gate[sup](1)[/sup]
H = New Cross Gate to Dalston Jn[sup](1)[/sup]

Matt

(1) I saw these during the trial service before trains ran to Crystal Palace and West Croydon. I do not know if any trains only go as far as New Cross Gate, or start their journey to Dalston Jn from there.

I thought only Eurostars and some Cross Countrys ran as class 9 not stopping services.

Could be to distinguish them from normal TOC trains.

Well, that may well have been true, but every East London Line train runs as a Class 9.

This has been discussed elsewhere on the forum I believe - due to a lack of non-conflicting Class 1/2 headcodes due to the intensity of the service (both on the ELL and in London generally)
