Having looked at the form now there's only 4 people signed up!!! Where's all the beer lovers? :O It's going to be a great afternoon of fun, being able to sample the Real Ale and have a tinker with Exeter West box. What more could you ask for? a working WCML would be nice I suppose, but you have the Chiltern and CrossCountry trains Log in to reply |

I was tempted but I have an eye op on the 27th and apparently getting drunk within a couple of days of a GA is not advisable...

Right, I'm going to be late. ETA for me is 13:00 (off the first VT from Scotland!) I'd rather not explain why, as it's fairly complicated. but considering an hour ago I was going to pull out of this (after organising it) I found a means of getting to Crewe! See you in a Week! Log in to reply |

Just FYI, we usually break for lunch about 1300/1330 (though it would depend on which timetable we run). You'd all be perfectly welcome to be in the box, and able to have a go at some of the levers, but obviously we'd be a bit too busy munching on sandwiches to be doing the simulator! Of course, you may wish to indulge in some beer to warm you up during this time

I'm also likely to arrive about 1300 - I'll be driving to Leominster then catching a train from there. By default I will head to the box when I get to Crewe.

Thanks to the Exeter West team Myself, Adrian the Rock (and his brother) and AndyG spent all afternoon pulling levers and thumping out bell codes (and chatting to the general public). You all missed a treat! Log in to reply |

Interesting events over the afternoon included an Engineers train stopping in section to drop off rails for an upcoming possession, horse boxes being moved from Cattle Docks, and discovering why the computer simulator had a note on it saying only to run one of the timetables (which ended with me and the computer firing "1"s at eachother as it refused to understand 2-1).

What a great afternoon. Thanks to Andrew, David and Danny(252) for making a memorable visit so enjoyable and informative. Great fun, no TCFs or other failures, nor any wrong food trolleys either. Seems amazing that it was worked normally by one man with a booking lad, certainly a 'panel' you need to learn to work well. I was very impressed with how much was included in the simulator computer behind the scenes. Highly recommended to any members visiting the area, and thanks to Mark for arranging the visit. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Log in to reply |

Even though the simulator was in use, I hope TOOS was sent the GWR way and not the wrong way. Log in to reply |

Zoe said:Danny252 said:The problem occuring was that 2-1 would be sent and the block set to "Normal", but the simulator wouldn't register this, either due to our bell codes being dodgy or for some unknown reason. It would also fire off a "1" if it got a bell code it couldn't comprehend - so the final exchange was:Interesting events over the afternoon included an Engineers train stopping in section to drop off rails for an upcoming possession, horse boxes being moved from Cattle Docks, and discovering why the computer simulator had a note on it saying only to run one of the timetables (which ended with me and the computer firing "1"s at eachother as it refused to understand 2-1). I seem to recall a similar altercation when I was trying to get Exeter Central to accept a 1-4-1 (that's a passenger train of the "wrong" railway! ) And yes, we all sent 2-1 the correct way. Thanks to Danny and the other EWG guys for a great afternoon! Log in to reply |

I find it's my feet that get the worst beating - walking up and down the frame from 10am to 5pm is apparently not the sort of thing feet like! The box will be open to the public until the last week of September, with the winter training season starting from October onwards - hopefully we'll see a few aspiring trainees appearing then? Great to see that you all had a good time there! I have been into the box in the past but there was no-one actively signalling it. Unfortunately I couldn't make it due to existing appointments, I wish I could have been there though. Ah well maybe next time!
