Just trying to update my wife's tomtom sat nave and to do so I have to keep disabling the Norton Firewall. I have tried to auto approve Tom-Tom in the program control (4 items approved because I could not work out which did what) But still it is blocked. Anyone know exactly whish element of tom-toom I should be approving? The help page just says authorise "Home"- I have allowed "HomeRunner", "Tom-Tom Home", "Tom-Tom Home Service" and "Tom-Tom Home Runner". Anyone else managed to get it passed Norton? Some other firewalls automatically give you the option of approving as and when anything new tries- mine just leaves me to struggle on tracking down that right program- took me 6 months to get IE accepted despite it being factory fitted (as was Norton) and pre approved. I have only resolved the matter in that I took down the firewall and did what I had to do. But that was not the issue that I needed addressing. The question was does anyone know how to set Norton to accept the connection without taking down the firewall. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

There must be a setting somewhere within the option/control window area thing for the firewall to allow a specified application to be allowed. Some security applications may be run in simplified mode and have a setting somewhere to run them in advance mode so it may be worth looking into that (if this is the case with your Norton, the required setting for the file may be hidden to 'Simplified' users). Another alternative might be to do a bit of a Google (other search engines are of-course available) and see if Norton's own website or some other [unofficial] website has some useful help/information about it.
