I don't understand the comment about the south not being served. After all, with the recent London meet, everybody from Southampton to Dover were within 2 hours of Liverpool Street; not to mention those just north, west, and east of London. Bizarre. Extremities are out (ie Penzance, Fishguard, Thurso etc). Sheffield is a little too close to Derby though it could be a back up plan next time. Much as I'd like a Scottish meet, I don't know that there are enough people either up that way or willing to travel that far. As all the meets have been in a triangle bounded by Bristol to the west, London to the south, and York to the north, the logical place for one meet would indeed be Liverpool/Manchester - more so the latter for direct connections to various parts of the UK. I think the comment regarding the south was that to get to Guildford (for example) from large parts of the UK would probably require a transfer across London, which could potentially add quite a hefty time onto any journey; not necessarily that it is inaccessible as such.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway. Log in to reply |

Geoff I am sure you would be please to note that Liverpool is on the list (PAGE 3) and along with manchester. More Updates on the list should be done today Log in to reply |

Add to that the South West Trains services from the South and the link to the Brighton Main Line from the North Downs, Id say that it would probably be the most accessable place south of London..... Maybe I should have put a smiley, not an exclamation mark. It was a bit tongue-in-cheek!

As regards curry places in Manchester, I think I'll just leave this here... ;) https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Curry_Mile (It's not strictly in the city centre but it's only a short bus ride away. I'm looking into more central curry restaurants but there's not much can compare with the Curry Mile.) Log in to reply |

I would suggest you set up a Wiki page in the meets section where you can keep track of what's been suggested more easily. Swindon is not easy to get to from even local areas so that should come off the list. Equally, Westbury is not great and the nearest pub is unsuitable with the next nearest a mile away - and not much in the way of accommodation either. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

just a quick update for everyone.... under the meets section of wiki at the bottom is other options recently added. This contains all the places suggested and their current outcomes. Please note that at current all places researched only have basic scratch servicing done. I will get done to thorough research shortly. Again Remember these are IDEAS and therefore final decision on the use of any of these places are NOT IN MY HANDS.... I am doing the research Many Thanks for all those who have made suggestions. Keep Them coming Neil p.s. just researched was Stevenage and found to be a no go (thanks to Luke Peters) Last edited: 01/08/2011 at 08:48 by nezza Reason: corrections Log in to reply |

Just my 2p's worth: Chester and Crewe lack Real Ale pubs. the nearest being in Northwich. Also Vrewe has an unofficial visit in August to Exeter West Shrewsbury might be suitable and considered as there are far better transport links. I'll help some more once I'm back on normal internet. I'd like to add Fort Wayne, Indiana to the list but sadly passenger rail services don;t exist even for those that live here, let alone from anywhere else! And yes, you can get real ale....Look up Mad Anthonys or Granite City..... Last edited: 01/08/2011 at 16:00 by Lardybiker Log in to reply The following user said thank you: y10g9 |
