Courtesy of Paul Curran, who many of you know and who drives trains on the Southern, has released his first simulation - Oxted. This is currently in beta form but will hopefully have a full release soon. Congratulations to Paul for his first sim!

Download from here (you need to be logged in).

A manual should be along shortly.
Edit {AG}: Oxted User Manual is located here (NB - work in progress).
Edit 2{AG}: Updated default TTs in Oxted TT downloads

This is like Simsig sleight of hand tricks... while we're all looking at the left hand and watching for Saltley and Derby, suddenly Brighton and Oxted appear out of nowhere in the right hand with a flourish! Thank you all concerned :-)

Just to advise you all that the manual for Oxted is currently under construction, I will have the manual available via the wiki as soon as possible. In the meantime do enjoy a new bit of former London, Brighton and South Coast Railway territory :-) with a little bit of South Eastern Railway thrown in for good measure. These are the old old companies by the way.

I've had a look at Oxted but cannot understand a pair of workings, the pair of workings I am referring to is 5L94 (0505 Selhurst T&&R.S.M.D - Hurst Green) and it's return working 2L94 (0600 Hurst Green - London Bridge) - how are you suppose to signal them at Hurst Green?

Coming from South Croydon, you can be routed into the Down platform but there's no signal to head back to South Croydon nor any points that I can see.

Apart from that, I'm enjoying Brighton and Oxted very much

this message appeared when the game started and ive never seen it before. is it something to do with development or is it an important message?

This is a message which I thought was only on de-bug builds and is connected with the scenario that you are running. It is the simulations way of knowing which options you have chosen to run. As far as I know it is safe to ignore. However I will post it on our bug board and hopefully one of the more senior developers can confirm or amend the reason for this message.

Just to advise you all the manual for Oxted is currently with my Wiki editor and will be available shortly.

What are the white signals with a stripe through them at East Grinstead and various other places?

They're banner repeaters, provided where it's difficult to see the main signal (because it's round a bend or under a bridge, for example). They repeat the indication of the main signal; if it's off, the banner repeater is angled at 45deg, and if it's on then the banner repeater is horizontal (much like a semaphore signal).

And as seen on Wikipedia, "some banner repeaters can display a third (green) indication".

Sometimes wonder why they can't just show | for green, \ for yellow (single or double) and - for red..but no doubt some kind of rule or something preventing this?!!

becuase the driver knows what to expect. if hes just pased a yellow its probably going to be a red. if hes just passed a green it will be a yellow. if hes passed a red then hes got more to worry about than banner repeaters

I know it doesn't really apply to banner repeaters, but I wonder whether it's anything to do with the fact that early semaphore signals had a vertical indication which was later withdrawn, because a failed signal could drop to vertical and so it was decided that there shouldn't be any 'passive' aspects like that?

(Surprisingly, the ever-helpful Railsigns.co.uk website doesn't say a great deal about that, but I'm sure I've read that was the reason for abolishing the original vertical signal positions.)
