Copy text problem 24/08/2011 at 19:29 #20035

This is an issue that's bugged me for years but I have a text (wordpad) file and I want to copy part of something I've written.

e.g copy "<g3>","<fw><g3>" from STM="<g3>","<fw><g3>"),
now it's virtually impossible to select that bit without the area automatically selecting additional characters either before/after (or both) the bit I've tried to select.
So from STM="<g3>","<fw><g3>"), I put the cursor after the = but as I curse along the = suddenly appears in the selected text, similarly the ) and , can be difficult to exclude.

Is there a fix that stops this happening; does not seem to happen in say "Word" itself.

Thanks

Peter

2 things to try (no guarantee):

i) try selecting backwards (ie leftwards);
ii) use cursor key rather than mouse (while holding down shift key).

or try a space (temporarily) after the = before selecting.

And then while your hands are off the mouse Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

Right ii) seems to work , bit of getting used to but it's a lot better, thanks.

If you do it with Ctrl+Shift, you can select whole words at a time (though how well that works with code and other text without clear word division can be a bit variable).
