Would there be any way to create a sim using the current Exeter, Bristol, Westbury, Swindid, and Gloucester sims merged into one larger super sim. I know that this would be a very large sim, but if a form of ARS was used with it, then it would become easily manageable. I don't know if this would be a viable simulation or not, but I just think that SwinDid with ARS has very little, if anything that really needs to be done. I am sure that if the other sim's that I have said here were to be merged with it, then it would become very interesting, and challenging.

Sorry, I don't mean to ramble here, but I'm not too sure how to explain what I am thinking here/

The term 'mindboggling' springs to mind. Also, probably a 32" or larger screen would come in useful.
Could work though?

Creating one such large sim is actually quite easy: Start all the sims you want to play as server and then connect them al together on your own pc. You have to use the IP 127.0.0.1 (local machine) and make sure you use different ports for every sim. The only down side is that with the newer sims you can't do anything when paused which is a pain as it makes managing large area's almost impossible. (I have no idea why this feature was added, as far as I know I never hurt anyone by pausing my sims while answering phone calls, while it removes a lot of fun for me)

What you cant do when you have sims chained together is have everything go through one screen. This is the point that I was trying to get to here. I know that they can be chained individually, but this adds complexity in having to look at all different windows all the time.

Ah, ok. I'm using multiple monitors, so I do not find that a real issue, but I understand it won't be so easy on a single monitor.

Broodje, I presume the reason for preventing anything being done whilst paused is that in real life Signalmen cannot pause time. If the phone rings they have to answer it and talk to drivers whilst setting other routes.

Pedroathome, this supersim would surely be impossible to play single-handed even on the slowest possible speed?

I have seen them all chained during multi's and still been effectively too large for a single host to handle efficiently, and he wasn't even setting the routes or answering the phones, just dealing with re-platforming etc.

I would have to say as well it would be a very difficult sim to write a timetable for.

Can't you just chain them up on one PC. I don't see the need to have one "super" sim.

As many people know I use three monitors, that allows me to see the whole of each Western sim bar Bristol without scrolling. So combining all five sims is approximately 17 1920 X 1080 screens. Too much for one person to handle even with ARS.

A real life signalman wouldn't operate all the panels on, for example, South Humberside on his/her own.

A real life signalman wouldn't be able to speed time up to 10 times normal time just to make the wee small hours with few trains less boring.

Why should this tiny concession to "reality" be denied us solo Simsiggers?

Aren't we getting a little ahead of time here - the 14 Regional Operating Centres are surely ages away yet?!!

No I think it would be a terrible idea if such a 'super sim' was ever released, it would take away the enjoyment of chaining together sims in multiplayer mode - London Bridge when it's ready and released will be more then big enough in fact I suspect it's ought to be the first multiplayer only sim as no one person here could control the whole area without going insane.

Having the sims as they are at the moment is much better, although there are some sims which one person can do they are obviously much better with more then one person, Central Scotland comes to mind so does Trent and Edinburgh.

So I think this certainly ought to be binned, not everyone is going to have multi monitors nor the space to house them!

Several are already built and at least partially in operation.
