Hello all.. With all of the new simulations currently in development, I suspect this may be a rejected idea, but I thought that a Norwich sim would be a great idea. The fact that Trowse Junction and Crown Point depot are included would make ECS movements, and the fact that the line diverges would create more traffic, with varying traction. Also, there has been a previous thread requesting Colchester PSB, which would be in the middle of Norwich and Liverpool Street. All it would need is the inbetween boxes in order to create the whole of the Great Eastern main line. I hope you agree  Sam "Signalman Exeter" Log in to reply |

Unless I'm mistaken or reading it wrong, Norwich cannot be done. See usertrack:faq:areas_that_can_not_be_simulated on the Wiki. If Norwich isn't, would Harwich be possible? I don't even know if there is a signalbox there. Is there a signalbox in Harwich, and if so, what area does it control?

I'd be surprised if it were not also part of Colchester. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Because it's controlled from Colchester which is on the list of can't dos per the link above. In some limited cases it maybe possible to do a pre Colchester version but that means getting old plans which is not easy. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Harwich is controlled from Parkeston Signal Box, which takes over control between Mistley and Wrabness.

Parkeston isn't in the list of areas that can't be done. Should this one be possible, or isn't it much interesting?

I've just had a look on Google Maps and from the looks of it the area of control probably wouldn't be particularly large, likely smaller than Wembley Suburban, but I can imagine it might be quite a rare simulation in that the amount of freight trains that'd be running through it would likely be higher than passenger services due to the presence of the port at Harwich. To that end, I would certainly be interested in having this as a simulation, and it may be quite a good one for one player too. So it's a yes (+1(?)) from me. There isn't very much in the way of freight traffic through Norwich itself. The only 2 flows I remember were the harwich - North walsham tanks which tended to run on alternative days. When I was at Whitemoor yard in the late 1980s there were a couple3 of speedlink service which ran from Whitemoor - Norwich & return. The other regular flow is the daily Mountsorrel - trowse stone working. I think Norwich in itself would be good for one player, especially if the shunting movements with Norwich Crown Poibt depot were added in any timetable written. The other unique feature of Norwich is the Trowse Swing Bridge. Not sure how2 many times it is open these days. When I was at liverpool Street control office 1990 - 1994 don't recall any6 major issues with Norwich, however it had it's own control office which dealt with the cross-country services & Liverpool street generally dealt with the Inter-City services. There were however about half a dozen mail & parcels services which originated & terminated at Norwich. An early 1980s summer saturday timetable would provide alot more diversity in traction in contrast to the present day.

Trowse bridge breaks every time it opens so you can imagine how often that happens
