Regarding http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:faq:areas_that_can_not_be_simulated, I'm wondering if it may be an idea to perhaps turn the list into a table. This table could perhaps contain three columns;

- Signal Box (it's actual name, i.e: 'King's Cross', or even 'King's Cross PSB')
- Notes (if any)
- Area of control

An example of the use of the notes column would be York, where 'including Leeds', could be added in the notes column.

That said, the Area of control column could potentially just list all the areas of control, including Leeds in the case of York.

Then again, maybe the proposed Area of control column could be "Boundary" or "Up to" instead, so an example of that would be Liverpool Street it could say "Liverpool Street to Marks Tey (GEML), Liverpool Street to Stansted North Jn (WAML)" or something along those lines.

Of course this table could also perhaps have a fourth column for the 'type', i.e: IECC, GE (MCS), Westinghouse (Westcad), which would mean that instead of three tables for each type, there could just be one big table.

I believe that doing this would be beneficial for many reasons, and hopefully the main benefit would be to heavily reduce the possibility of anyone asking for an area that cannot be done, and the Area of control / boundary / up to column ought to make it clear how far that exclusion goes to.

Just an idea for now, I'd appreciate thoughts on this.

As usual, thanks in advance for replies.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

I added some of that kind of stuff the other day. If you think tabulation is better then please have a go..

I notice the wiki page says, areas that Geoff cannot work on, but what about other developers?

I would hazard a guess that it means just that, that Geoff cannot personally work on those areas, but as to whether those same agreements apply to the other SimSig developers, I'm not sure, perhaps some of the top bods could clarify this for us?

As has been said before, for any other developer to work on them, they would have to have no input from Geoff on the making of the sim, and obviously not have the same links Geoff has with them - assuming, of course, that Geoff is willing to let them work on it.

That's a fair summary.
