All I can say is it's worth the money, being able to see all of Exeter without scrolling is very very very nice.  Sorry for the poor pictures but it illustrates the point. Here a picture of your view of KX with 2 screens: Just buy a 2nd monitor and a computer with a connector for an extra screen. Plug in the screen, choose to extend your desktop over it, ready. AJP in games Log in to reply |

Right connecting more than one monitor to a PC. If it is two monitors you want then you can either use an Nvidia or an ATI card, all you do is plug both monitors in and enable them via the monitor control panel in windows. However if you want Three or more you require an ATI graphics card either a 5XXX series card or a 6XXX card, the third monitor needs to be connected via display port on the graphics card which requires a special adapter. I'll post some more picks in a couple of weeks when my third matching monitor arrives. You can do more than 3 monitors on a system with ATI or NVidia. A quick look at NewEgg.com revealed a card with four DVI outputs based on a GForce 8400, for example, for $164. I am sure your local UK supplier would have something similar. I also found a 6-output ATI card for around $400 and the link below talks about an 8-output card based on an ATI chipset (but who knows how much that costs!!!). http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Matrox-PCIe-DisplayPort-Octal-Graphics,9042.html Just need to find a desk big enough now to fit all those monitors on!!!!

And I can show you a card that has 5 monitor outputs but only powers three monitors, monitor connectors doesn't = number of monitors.

We've been customers of Matrox for years now, mostly the quad head cards. The biggest display we've set up was a 24 screen system using 2 PCs each with 3 quad cards. I see from Chris' link that 8-port cards are now available - but at US$1995 a pop, maybe not!

Interesting, thanks chaps. I've been looking into doing something like this for a while. It's a trade off between getting a new PC and a couple of monitors for it, and building my own server (well 2 actually!) to move my sites onto.

 This is my 2 screen setup. Look the prehistoric CRT I'm still using for this. The blue and purple colors are much darker on this monitor, than on my lappy's own screen, which makes non-ARS trains and Auto buttons look strange. AJP in games Log in to reply |

I'm having a third as you can see behind the lappy. If one of them was a flatscreen, I could bring them to a meet (am not going to the Wakefield). But I do not have a flatscreen and even a 15" CRT is too big and heavy for bringing it the whole way to England. If there's lack of lappys at a meet, you can connect a 2nd screen, keyboard and mouse and use one lappy. I can supply some mouses (no mice - that are animals) if needed. I have finally setup my quad displays. Its 4 x Iiyama E2607 screens running at 1920 x 1200 @ £171 each The card is an ATI Firepro 2460 with 512Mb which cost £103 On South Humberside I can see Cleethorpes - Scunthorpe On Edinburgh can see Ladybank - edge of Platforms at Waverley or Berwick to Forth Bridge On Kings Cross can see Cross - Hitchin Up Yard I know it seems excessive but this was my Christmas present, its just taken me ages to get the monitors I wanted.

Touch screens no no no no, think they would drive me up the wall as I would end up touching up the screen in the office and people would think I really have lost it, its bad enough picking up a non touch phone and poking at the screen. Trackball is a good suggestion, I must have a look and see what looks decent, its a long mouse move to get the cursor all the way accross at the moment even at hyper speed.
