Intriguing....do you get let into the guards compartment/the rear cab to do your business in private or are you meant to stand there in public doing it? If so then that's one hell of a way to get into a cab!

Except planes have toilets....

I thought you had to stay in your seat at all times when the plane is coming in for landing or taking off (which I presume is what they are doing by circling over London waiting for a path to land?)

Not normally, when holding the pilot is told how long he can expect to be waiting and will usually leave the seatbelt signs off unless it is turbulent. In my experience the signs wll be turned on when in the final hold or when leaving it, which is abut the 10 minutes to landing stage that the pilot use to warn the cabin crew.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

It depends on exactly what hold pattern you are put into. I have some deeply unpleasant memories of waking up just as we were coming into London on a flight from Nairobi before I could get up and use the lavatory the seat belt signs were illuminated. We were then put in an extended hold pattern circling over central London, all the time with the seat belt signs illuminated. It would seem it varies from airline to airline!

These toilet bags are causing some consternation over here, although I don't particularly see the fuss. The NS aren't taking toilets out of trains which currently have them in (that is what one guard told me the other day), it is just for the new Sprinter trains which weren't built with toilets. I may have that wrong though. If it is the case, then at least having somewhere to go is better than nothing! Especially down here in Limburg where all the trains apart from the local Veolia trains have toilets anyway...

Yes, this story makes me proud being a Dutchmen ;). The NS was was not happy that they were being ridiculed by the Dutch (or actually the world) media, which does show they really have no idea how things go in the real world.

The minister has said that from 2030 (!) on every train needs to have a toilet. NS also said that a toilet will cost them a lot of money: they are planning to import complete toilet boxes from Bahrein when they are forced to put toilets in trains.
