I only remember maybe a dozen trains going through New St outside the normal run of things which weren't passenger charter stock in 3 1/2 years on the station, including 6 months of nights. One of them was a 1600 ton concrete train for the North Stour which had been diverted into New St and brought to a stand on plat 11 (possibly the most curved platform in the station) in order to check whether it had a tail lamp or not. It hadn't, and after 20 mins searching the fitters' and shunters' cabins to find a tail lamp, the driver then had to get it moving again - with a Class 60 on the front...

The North end of the station was completely tied up for about ten minutes till the tail of the train finally cleared the pointwork.

When I was supervisor at Willesden Brent (OK it's a long time ago... 1983 - 85) our evening Bescot (6M92? 6M94?) would occasionally be sent via New Street; not a regular thing but once or twice a month I'd guess, allowing for seeing late turn 1 week in 3.

Quick question Keith, during your time at Willesden did you know a yard supervisor called Colin Rolland?

'fraid not. My colleagues at the Brent were Ben (Benjamin, an older West Indian guy who only used his surname) and Dave Minney; when I moved on Mitch took my job. AYM (later AFA) on my shift was Peter Jones. Can't think of any Colin at all aroudn the area in my day.

AYM (later AFA) on my shift was Peter Jones. Can't think of any Colin at all around the area in my day.

Ok Keith, I worked with him until a couple of years ago and he was at Willesden somewhere around the time you were there. It could've been slightly later.

4V46 and 4V47 are the same consist and timings, but are missing an "are alternates" rule

Not likely to get resolved as the TT writer no longer around

There is an ongoing project to refresh the 2009 TTs to the newer standards of v5 loaders, but Saltley is way down the list

Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!!
