Saw this earlier today, just thought I'd share. NOTE: I've tried to find an already existing thread to post this in, but couldn't. I have no objections to this thread being merged with another thread or if needed self-reposting this in another thread if someone could direct me to a suitable one. Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for. If you've ever met some of the trolley staff on cross-country trains, it wouldn't surprise you...

I did catch one off Derby to Nottingham after the Meet. A 3-car 170 jam-packed so no room for any sort of trolley. Log in to reply |

" said:" said:Not quite a trolley but I remember in the days of Virgin Cross Country, they used to regularly announce that the buffet would be opening soon after Bristol Parkway (after boarding at Temple Meads), which usually meant after Westerleigh Junction, and would then close "for stocktaking" soon after Cheltenham Spa. if you think a 170 3 car is bad enough trying to get a trolley through try a 170 2 car with the one before delayed and still `attempt' to bring it down the train (leicester - new st line) talking from past experience Log in to reply |

Does anyone else think that XC do suffer from overcrowding on a daily basis due to not having a decent enough amount of carriages? I know this is a debate that was since the introduction of the Voyagers (eight years ago?) but we're talking a 170-2 or even worse a 220 on long distances... speaking from experience!! 4 extra HSTs just aren't enough really. On the positive side, saw BR Large Logo today at Donny (47850?) - made me smile as it's been a while since I saw that. Log in to reply |

I avoid XC trains at all costs, you can never sit down anywhere, always packed, it may be a diverse service serving routes all over the country but I agree there are just not enough seats.

Or the ATW service out of Wolverhampton towards B'ham New Streeet. Usually a ropey 3/4 car 158 crammed full of people with a lady 'trying' to walk through all the people with a trolley.
