Not sure if it's available permanently or a temporary promotion like with London Midland's Great Escape but you may find Southern do a ticket that provides unlimited travel with them over a day. Good for Class 442 bashing. B) Could also bash the Class 313s with it too. And pop along to Newhaven Marine.

Kent seem to have one last time I looked but was for 3 days...shame they don't do a 1 day one! Southern DaySave is excellent value, just mind not to do the Gatwick Express 442s as you'll be thrown off with a penalty fare or an excess. I (and others) have argued that they cannot do this as the Gatwick Express IS a Southern Service. We have pushed the London TravelWatch to see that this should be valid on there, and I have had a letter from the MD saying he will refund my penalty fare...yet to receive it though! Don't even get me started on this one, if you do encounter this issue I recommend asking the member of staff something along the lines of : Is Gatwick Express listed on page 27 of the NRCOC as a TOC? As it is not do you agree that Southern is listed as a TOC on page 27 of the NRCOC? Do you agree that Gatwick express services are operated by Southern? Therefore how can a ticket advertised as valid on ALL Southern services not be valid. From the Day Save page on the Southern Website: DaySave The DaySave ticket is an off-peak pass available for unlimited travel on Southern services on the date shown on the ticket. This ticket is only available online and must be purchased at least 7 days in advance (14 days during some seasonal holiday periods). DaySave is only valid on the Southern network. Not valid on Gatwick Express. I think that probably clears them of allowing it on GatX Log in to reply |

It does however when I and a few others did it (separately, not in a group) we were either charged or some were lucky to get an understanding but told not to do it again. At the time, GatEx was not a restriction but the foreign staff did not understand at all, claiming GatEx is a different TOC. It took me 3 (maybe 4) times to say it is operated by Southern to which she finally said 'well....yes...you are right but why do you think we charge more?' Well...I don't know, maybe you can tell me why you charge more for the same route on effectively the same TOC? (I didn't say that on the train) and quoting the NRCoC did not work and the same replies were stuck on a loop... Now they have added Gatwick Express as a separate TOC to the NRCoC to fight back, so some others are pushing the TravelWatch and TSA to see if they can actually class a brand as a TOC....not the first time they have been caught by the TSA though...
