Coincidentally, Mrs. G was on the train back from London last Thursday and was delayed for the best part of an hour at Hitchin due to a swan entangled on the OHLE! I'm presuming that swan was not as lucky as the swan in the BBC link and is no longer with us. A swan got tangled up in the Down Fast OHLE at, I believe, Cadwell (which is just north of Hitchin and visible on SimSig KingsX) resulting in that line being blocked and all Down trains towards Arlesey running on the Down Slow, likely at a reduced speed. Up Fast trains were apparently still running but at caution. Not sure about Up Slow trains though. A quick Google™ search resulted in finding this news article - although I didn't know Class 319s (the train in the picture) ran on the Great Northern route  Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.
