Just a quick note that will end up in the manual when WIKI is stabalised. In V2.201 I've set Tiverton Parkway and Tiverton Junction platforms to be visible on a mutually exclusive basis- just Left click on which ever platform is visible. You can then run different timetables to the correct station. However, there is a wee bug that may cause neither platform to be visible if you relaunch the sim without closing it fully. If that happens you simply click on the screen where either platform should be it will sort itself out. It is now fixed for a future release. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Peter Bennet: Quote: In V2.201 I've set Tiverton Parkway and Tiverton Junction platforms to be visible on a mutually exclusive basisMy screen shows the same for Tiverton as Sam Tugwell's pic. The area is called "Tiverton Junction". There are two passing loops (Up/Down), each with an unlabelled platform. All the trains that stop here have their timetables marked "Tiverton Parkway" yet there is nothing here with that name. Does this mean they should be routed through the Main or the respective Up or Down loop so that they actually stop at the unmarked stations? I would think the latter. Thanks for responding to this minor quibble. Last edited: 12/01/2012 at 07:59 by maxand Log in to reply |

Maxand - this would suggest that the wrong selection was made on start up of the sim. If you selected Tiverton Jcn then the situation you describe would arise. However, Tiverton Pky is a modern location of Tivertons station. Therefore a modern timetable (not sure after what yr) should not have Tiverton Jcn selected on Sim Options at start up. Hope that makes sense?! Mike Ripley, Derbyshire Log in to reply The following user said thank you: maxand |

Thanks for replying. I'm playing Exeter v2.227.0. The timetable is Exeter Summer 2006 v2.226. There is a "Tiverton Jn" checkbox in Options. No matter whether I check it or not, I always see "TIVERTON JUNCTION" as described below, yet the timetable keeps referring to "Tiverton Parkway". So does this mean I stop the train in the loop with the platform or along the Main?

Tiverton Pky station is on the main line to the right of the loops so route through the main line of Tiverton Jcn. Tiv Jcn is on both eras, it is just the station that moves to Pky. Both are still timing points i believe. If you cant see Tiv Pky station and you have Tiv Jcn unchecked then it may be the glitch that Peter decribes remains in this version - though I have not encountered it. Anyone any other advice/ideas??

My post above was made in 2009 and relates to a different release. The latest release does it differently and as far as I am aware is bug free. The location Tiverton Jn is in both eras, it's just where the platforms are visible and whether "Parkway" is a valid timetable location. I think- that's from memory and others seem to have covered it anyway. Again from memory I think you can get a warning at launch if you use a timetable with Parkway in it but without the option selected. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! maxand - Don't know if this is any help but Tiverton Junction closed 11th May 1986 and Parkway opened the following day. So if you are using the 2006 timetable then you should leave Tiverton Jct unchecked. I have just opened the Exeter version 2.227 to see if I could help. If you leave Tiverton Jct unchecked you get Parkway station to the right of the loops and not on them which is how it should be. I then loaded it with Tiverton Jct checked and the platforms do move to being located in the loops, again how it should be. Having a quick look at the 2006 timetable both do appear in the timetable as timing points. Some services do stop at Parkway and can be stopped there. If you are not getting the right locations or the platforms showing in different positions you may need to download Exeter again to see if that works. Hope this is of some help Geoff Log in to reply |

Thanks, finally got it. To sum up: If playing the 1985 timetable included with the sim, check "Tiverton jn" in Options when starting a game, since the area was named Tiverton Junction then. Your panel should look like this: If playing the 2006 timetable included with the sim, or any timetables later than 1986, leave "Tiverton jn" unchecked, since the station became Tiverton Parkway in that year and was moved Up the Main. Your panel should look like this: It would be nice to see some text on the Options page next to the checkbox stating something like this: "Tiverton Jn - check only if using timetables prior to 1986". (added) Added these pics and info to Wiki Options page for Exeter sim. Last edited: 12/01/2012 at 11:46 by maxand Log in to reply |

Was wondering why the timing point of my trains at Tiverton didn't align with the platforms when I was played the default timetable last month. Thanks.

Quote:Isn't that what we're hear for? To answer your many questions Anyway it doesn't appear too difficult to me. The manual says:- Quote: It is possible to simulate Tiverton Junction station, which was closed on the 11th May 1986, and was replaced by Tiverton Parkway, which opened the day after. Which station appears can be selected on start-up.It stands to reason if you tick Tiverton Junction that it will simulate Tiverton Junction. And since the manual states that Tiverton Parkway opened the day after Tiverton Junction closed I would of also thought it obvious that if you don't tick Tiverton Junction you'll get the other station. If in doubt, it takes 10 seconds to start the game with it ticked and look at the Tiverton area to see what effect it has. I would also think it's obvious that if you select a timetable earlier than 1986 trains will stop at the site of Tiverton Junction station regardless of which button you've ticked. likewise if you use a timetable later than 1986 trains will stop at the site of Tiverton Parkway. The picture of a station is simply that, it's a drawing on the panel or iecc screen. The trains will stop wherever they're timetabled to stop. FF Log in to reply |

The track layout did not change, so the trains will stop where they are booked irrespective as to whether you have the platforms shown in the correct place on the screen. The TT will still work.

Firefly wrote: Quote: The manual says:-Not meaning to sound pedantic, I still stick to my guns that understanding what has been written in a manual can be something quite different from simply reading it, and depends on one's prior level of expertise. With all due respect, put yourself in the shoes of a newbie who reads the above. He/she goes to the Options page and sees a checkbox named "Tiverton jn". That's it. Nothing else. He/she may have read the manual once or twice until his/her eyes glazed over, without really being much the wiser. In fact, when he/she reads "Which station appears can be selected on start-up", he/she might reasonably be expected to see a pair of radio buttons, one marked "Tiverton Jn", the other "Tiverton Parkway", which isn't the case at all. This is not as positive as saying "Check Tiverton Jn if using a timetable prior to 1986, and uncheck it if using a timetable after 1986". Manual writing isn't as obvious as many think it is, which is why many of us have given up trying to RTFM, sigh and just try to wing it. I know it's tedious, but sometimes one just has to dot the i's and cross the t's. I've said all I want to say in this thread. Thanks for feedback. Personally if I read this in the manual I would just try it and see what happened. I don't read the manuals but then I don't really have to as most things work just like the real world. Being a bloke my standard operating procedure is to unpack things from the box, "wing it" as you say and then read the manual when I come across a specific problem. (of course I don't do this at work!) The problem with my method is that I often miss features because I haven't RTFM'd. FF Log in to reply |
