"A health and safety charge against the rail maintenance company Jarvis over the 2002 Potters Bar train crash has been dropped." BBC News item I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Log in to reply |

It makes sense really - no point in wasting lots of money to get none back and with basically nothing they could do about it

Can't quite see the point of prosecuting NR as they did not exist at the time though they did take on the liabilities of Railtrack. So I guess if they are fined the taxpayer will end up paying the fine to the Government plus the legal costs of defending what they have admitted to despite not being directly implicated because of what I said in the first sentence. hey-ho Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Not to mention that it's the best part of nine years on. Anyone remember Clapham Junction (1988)? Gordon Pettitt was on the 6pm news and announced the cause of the accident. He was followed immediately by Bob Reid who announced that BR accepted liability in full. End of. OK, there was a court case a few months later but that was simply to assess damages. I despair! I'd like to think that "Britain’s leading transport commentator" Christian Wolmar summed it up well.
