Penalized for routing through platform? 18/01/2012 at 01:04 #27604

In situations such as this, where a choice can be made to route through a platform, in the case of trains whose TTs do NOT schedule them to stop there, am I penalized if I route them through the platform rather than keep them on the main line? I can see that platform loops can be used as passing loops, but is it permissible to route a train that does not stop there through the platform anyway? I appreciate that shunting through the platform may cause it to slow down a little, but this isn't enough to justify any penalty.

(added) PS - Nice pics of Totnes Station here.

The train would have to slow down quite a bit at Totnes from 60 mph to 25 mph to enter the loop.

You could be penalised for lost time.

also if the stock doesnt have SDO (selective door operation) ie, slam doors, in real life you might have an issue if it made an unscheduled stop at a station while checked at a signal

Thanks to all who replied, but no one's really answered the question so far, so I take this to mean that apart from losing time, I do not directly incur a penalty for unnecessarily routing a train through a platform loop. Maybe one of the developers can shed light on this.

As far as I'm aware, you wouldn't be penalised for this. But as Zoe mentioned and BarryM covered, with the lower speeds you may cause a slight delay to the train which may penalise you a bit. Although, that said, the delay shouldn't be too bad (I'd say likely no more than 2 minutes).

No the penalty only ever applies to platforms and stops in the timetable, even then it depends on how it's coded in the data.
