Would it be possible to have hitting "enter" when typing out a sticky note click ok, and "shift-enter" taking the role of enter? I only ask as I rarely use more than one line of the note, and it saves a bit of time just hitting enter when done. Log in to reply |

I don't mind either way. Trouble is, other users such as jc92 use multiple lines per sticky note, so you may be pushing uphill to get this accepted. I agree though, it's annoying to have to remember that pressing Enter works to close an Interpose window, since it only accepts one line, but you have to find another way of closing a multi-line editor. After trying various workarounds, including macros, I find the easiest solution is to press Alt+O, not well documented though if you look hard at the close button you will notice the O in "OK" is underlined, meaning it's a hotkey. My reasoning goes like this: If you need to take your hand off the mouse to type in a New Working TD into a sticky note, you probably need to use both hands to type it in, in which case it's no big deal to press Alt+O to close it while both hands are on the keyboard. On the other hand, if you type it in just using the fingers of the non-mouse hand, your mouse hand can remain on the mouse and you can close the window by clicking OK. As a third option, you could try creating a macro for the non-mouse hand only (I set up Alt+X), or a combination of non-hand mouse and mouse (e.g., Alt+R-click, Win+Middle Button, etc.). But you need to remember odd key combinations, and macros aren't for everyone. Your post highlights the underlying problem that a major bottleneck in SimSig is the need to type in all TDs displayed in the Activities column of the Show Timetable window, such as Next Working (N:), etc. It might be the way things are done in real life; but I don't plaster paper sticky notes all over my laptop screen either. The two main problems with the Show Timetable window are that (1) it's way too large, with a great deal of wasted whitespace and a fixed-size font (Courier 12, I think) that can't be made any smaller, so hides too much of the View window for single-screen players; and (2) none of it can be highlighted, copied and pasted into a sticky note or Interpose window. Yes, I suppose if you were to try and satisfy everyone's needs you would need 100's of options. For me, I only really use sticky notes for having the departure times for trains at terminus stations, so 1 line does fine. eg: Thanks for the Alt+O tip, hadn't thought of that one before. I'd rather not set up Macro's - I begin to rely on them too much, then change PC and suddenly become lost! Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

On through stations, where the order of trains is important, and large stations with no TRTS etc, I have two stickies. The main one is a multiline one: 1A11 09:30 2B22 09:34 ... sorted by time, sometimes I have [1A11 09:30 J} to show that train is waiting on a join. The other one is to keep track when there are more trains than berths in a platform. 2: 2B22 2B24 2B26 always in physical order. Log in to reply |

Much easier than having to click on each of the TDs every few minutes to check when they're due to depart isn't it? Though how do you italicise the writing? Also, which sim is that? Nil. This sim is Brighton. I have no idea how/why the note is italicised - it just is Log in to reply |

Laryk Another way of getting the same information, which I find easier if there is just one train in a platform and a spare berth available, is to use that spare berth for interposing the time of departure of that service. Once the platform track circuit clears the 'extra' TD will also clear out the berth saving the trouble of then using a sticky note. Note that this is one of the real life ways used by the professional signaller to prevent delay to services. Paul C You have to get a red before you can get any other colour Log in to reply |

On the sims I have, when it gets busy I find stickies really useful. I use them mainly for reminding me of departures and TDs at busy times. I use them in the basic form and they work fine. Mal. Log in to reply |

A technique I've used on Edinburgh, and Sheffield 1983 TT is to just have the one sticky with just one 4 letter word on it........'Next'. Then it's clear enough which train will be wanting out first, to keep incomers away/around or held. Once it goes, just move it onto the next due departure. Come to think of it, it doesn't actually need any text on anyway. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. I agree that it can be a bit annoying, to tip something into a "sticky-note" and automatically hit enter. Only to find that it doesn't work like that. As an aside, I use them, on Cambridge particulary, to remind me which end, of a coal train, the loco. was/is, when they are running round in the yard. I also use them on the SLW scenario, to remind me where the Pilotmen are Log in to reply |

In addition to the Alt+O hotkey mentioned in post #2, keyboard users can press Tab 3 times to move focus to the OK button, then press Enter to close the window without having to reach for the mouse to do it.
