Alan, glad you enjoyed it. I particularly liked the way he 'flings' the levers back in the frame nonchalantly with great aplomb - obvious a sturdy piece of equipment. £17/week such riches in those days! :lol:

Yes great wages indeed! Unfortunately when I was signalman at that box the track had been savagely rationalised down from four lines to two with some sidings, and traffic was nowhere near as frequent. The loneliness and remoteness of the location really came home to you during the quiet times; but with oil fired central heating it was a toasty box at night, and we actually had a proper flush toilet even though it used the spring water from a nearby stream!
