Certain forum members may be interested to know I am currently on board 2R43. I will post later if we have any issues at SY8.

Out of interest, how do you know it's 2R43?

One way to know your headcode is to look at the stamp on your ticket, at least if the ticket has already been checked. You could also ask the train staff for the headcode (which always works well in The Netherlands) or perhaps you can see it on some timetable as well.

For those not privy to whatever information sources Karl (headshot119) has, the information is publicly available as long as you have some information about the train. If you go to the Traveline North East website and insert the journey details it brings back the typical sort of train listing that you get from travel planning sites but also the headcodes. It works for the whole UK National Rail system not just the North East of England. For example, if I enter Birmingham New Street to Redditch at 15:00 on Monday 30th. January, I get a list back of 5 trains departing at half-hourly intervals from 14:13 and their headcodes (2R39, 2R41, 2R43, 2R45 and 2R47). You can't do a reverse search (know a headcode and get the train details) but it can be handy. PS I am sure Karl will make a post if he sees anything interesting as he flashes past SY8. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 27/01/2012 at 15:54 by postal Log in to reply |

I use Freightlocate to get the headcodes when I'm planning trips, and Rail miles when I'm adding them to my records. I'm now on 2R42. Unfortunately SY8 was already showing a proceed aspect on arrival, and I didn't see anything unusual in the alvechurch area. The driver also laughed when I made a comment about a certain article of clothing whilst he changed ends at Redditch. " said:Have a look here..Sadly this link doesn't work any more, but if it refers to what I think it refers to, I was on 10/11 at New St that day and listening in to the signaller cautioning drivers on the direct line was an entertaining experience. Log in to reply |

Why was New Street cautioning? Seems strange as it is a Saltley signal that protects the section. Can you remember the exact date? Log in to reply |
