Done 1st stage of new South Humberside TT and when I went into Tools menu Tools 1/2 to do a bit of analysis tried exporting as a CSV file but Excel system said 'cannot find file'. When I went back into the export menu I find that the WTT/WTR plus the analysis files have all got a 'locked' symbol on the file. Tried the reverse by getting Excel to find the file via Explorer and still says cannot find file. Tried going through the Permissions bit (under File Security) and it looks fine as file is available to system/administrator i.e. me and does not say file is locked. Me confused. This is 1st TT I've done on Windows7 has that got something to do with it? Also just discovered that the new WTT/WTR file is also hidden from the main South Humberside sim file as well - although it appears on my list of timetable options. Weird. Any suggestions/help appreciated. Sorry posted in wrong section - should be timetable chat - not newcomers - mod please move thanks Last edited: 05/02/2012 at 00:10 by Quizman Reason: being a berk Log in to reply |

Found a workaround - copy the files to desktop (just in case), delete files to Recycle Bin, restore files and amazingly they're back where they should be without the 'locked' symbol. Weird or what :silly:

Weird or what :silly:Interesting that you should raise this one as I found the same problem when writing a bit more to a timetable last night. Thanks Geoff Log in to reply |

...And there's why..... Windows Vista and Windows 7 have more security on Program Files folders as a measure to help prevent malicious applications affecting your PC. What they did was design it such that folders and files within Program Files are supposed to be read-only application files and all other data and user files should be placed in a common area. This basically means that any files or folders under the Program Files folder now need admin rights to change (which your normal SimSig application won't have when running normally). This initially showed itself with regards to SimSig when people installed the sims, and couldn't, like you found, edit the TT's! As a result of this, Geoff made some changes to SimSig to work with these new restrictions. I believe this included changing the installer to place TT files into a common area rather than Program Files which is designed for storing user data that can be modified without requiring Administrator rights, and in addition, adding an option under F3 to allow you to alter where the application looks for said TT files. As you are using Windows 7, I'd recommend making use of this and not putting your TT's under the Programs Files folder. I forget what the option is called but I am sure someone else will chime in and say so (can you tell how much time I now spend playing sims????) I'm still using XP which doesn't have the same restrictions, but I have everything SimSig installed into a SimSig folder in My Documents rather than under Program Files with separate folders for each sim. The TT files are then in relevant sub-folders. Would that work in Vista and W7 if you don't want to use the "Use Public Folders" route?
