Headcodes for London Overground 15/02/2012 at 13:05 #29488

Hi,

Does anyone know the form of headcodes used by the London Overground services? I'm particularly interested in services to/from Clapham Junction for a new TT I'm writing for the Waterloo sim. I heard a rumour that they had fairly recently started using 9xxx headcodes to avoid confusion with Southern and South Eastern services.

If anyone knows anything about London Overground empty stock moves that would be helpful too.

Thanks,
Muzthing

I found 2Nxx is used for trains from Richmond for example.

opentraintimes.com gives details of ECS moves (click 'normal' at the top right to switch to advanced mode). You'll see from there that LOROL trains to/from Clapham Jn run as 2Yxx. Various combinations of 9Axx, 9Bxx, 9Cxx, 9Dxx, 9Exx and 9Fxx appear on the former East London Line.

2Lxx is used from Clapham Jn to Stratford, to distinguish between trains going through Willesden from Clapham (L) or those terminating (Y).

So, for a Waterloo SimSig TT, all LOROL trains arriving at Clapham Jn will be 2Yxx (from Willesden or from Stratford), and departing trains will be 2Yxx for willesden terminators, and 2Lxx for through trains. [NB: in 2011/2012. I think some from Stratford to Clapham used to run as 2Oxx in 2010]

2Nxx run Richmond to Stratford, so won't be seen in Waterloo SimSig, and all 9's run to/from the current ELL, nowhere near Waterloo.

NB: East London Line desrciption...
9Axx = ELL to Crystal Palace, 9Bxx = return
9Cxx = ELL to West Croydon, 9Dxx = return
9Exx = ELL to New Cross, 9Fxx = return
I *think* that 9Gxx = ELL to New Cross Gate only, and 9Hxx is return, but I cannot be sure.
Empties use 3Xxx.
Don't know what the plan is for when the service is introduced from the ELL via the South London Line (Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, Wandsworth Road) to Clapham Jn

What date are you writing the timetable for?

For Empty stock try:

http://www.opentraintimes.com/

If it's for Waterloo sim, I doubt there is empty turns, as the Willesden - Clapham shuttle generally starts at Willesden so would just come from the TMD there (though I would happily stand to be corrected there).
Having a glance on Open train times, there appears to be some Southern services that come empty from Selhurst that use P1 at CJ

There are at least 2, possibly 3, empties from Willesden TMD or Euston to Clapham Jn in the morning. These also act as route learning trips for the drivers going via the WCML, rather than Willesden Jn.

The first Southern service of the morning runs empties from Selhurst (via Streatham, Tulse Hill, Herne Hill, Wandsworth Road) to Latchmere Jn, where it reverses into Platform 1 (recently re-numbered from 2) and starts there for Watford or Milton Keynes - I can't remember the destination off hand.

Ah I was not aware of opentraintimes. That will give me all the information I need since I'm actually just writing the TT for the present day. So luckily I don't need to worry about through trains for now!

Thanks everyone
