Does a (magenta) ARS label flashing spontaneously mean that something has caused ARS to stop routing along that line? I can't see this mentioned in the manual. When I clicked the ARS button to disable it, then re-enabled it, it stopped flashing, so I assume it's waiting for the next train. Strangely, though, the train is still shown as "ARS-enabled", so I'm not clear as to whether I should just let it proceed, routing manually where necessary, or make the train non-ARS, route manually to the next ARS area, then re-enable that train's ARS. The ARS label will flash if you cancel a route in the ARS sub-area, to alert you to the fact that the sub-area has been disabled. Trains will still indicate that they are ARS, however if you look at the routesetting status it will say "Waiting for route in manual sub-area". If the train was approaching the signal where the route was cancelled, it will be made non-ARS. As Peter explained here, cancelling a route will cause the subarea(s) for that route to drop out (they're disabled but flash to show that they have dropped out). This prevents ARS setting another route in the same area until you re-enable the subarea. A train's ARS status is independent of the subareas. Both need to be enabled for ARS to set a route. Cancelling a route in front of a train will cause the train to go non-ARS*. That route could be tens of miles away or right in front; the train looks ahead as far as it has routes set for it (or auto signals). * - occasionally there are situations where this doesn't happen but should do SimSig Boss Log in to reply The following user said thank you: maxand |

The whole ARS guidance probably needs to be worked through and revised. As indicated elsewhere a significant rebuild of the module occured recently and it now works a whole lot better than it did before and is more intuitive so the manual is out of date in some respects. I'm pretty sure SwinDid is the only current release built with the new ARS module. I work with ARS a lot in development (most of my Sims have/will have full ARS option) but it's always in the form of testing what I've built works rather than to test the ARS as such. If things come up that appear wrong or don't do what I want them to do then I report - otherwise exactly how it works and in what circumstances I've not really explored. Don't Waterloo, Peterborough and Edinburgh have the new ARS system as well? I seem to remember that something to that effect was mentioned at the time, and they do have that handy feature that when you route a train onto a parallel line - e.g. from the slow to fast, ARS will recognize this once you try to make the train ARS again. I don't think that this possible with the old ARS system.
