Hi all, discovered another move query. Can't figure the reverse moves in the Kensal Rise area to gain lines for Harlesden Jcn, and Willesden HL/LL. Overall I have to say I'm finding my round North London relatively easily apart from occasional routing queries. Also, after trains have divided, will the new reporting numbers insert automatically, or do they require insertion, and in which order. Many thanks again for any assistance.

Hi
All the timetabled reverses take place in the reversing siding shown above the through lines. It is possible to reverse at Kensal Rise itself - with careful removing/editing of timetable and a manual reverse of direction - but that appears to be never timetabled, and is best kept for emergencies such as failed points into the reversing siding as the line is SO busy there is rarely a long enough gap to do it.

On this Sim dividing trains need manual insertion of reporting numbers. If there is only one TC then you must insert the new front one first (i.e. the first to depart) and then insert the second one when the first has departed - happens around 6am for example at Stratford Low Level. (there are a few other interesting moves around there including on one timetable one that goes out to the left from the "rightbound" platform).

Hi jrr and thanks for your quick reply. I see you mention using the reversing siding. I should have mentioned in my post that that's what I've been trying to use and had no luck, unless I've clicked in the wrong bit? thanks so much for your patience, as I hope this isn't a silly question (I'm good at those!).

The reversing siding at Kensal Rise is usually used for Postals and Mails (or associated empty stock moves) running between the Royal Mail terminal at Willesden and the Great Western Main Line. Just to add to the fun, my recollection of the default NLL TT is that some of the trains into or out of the RM terminal have the traction as electric rather than diesel which means that they show a wrong route message when you try and get them out of the reversing siding. You need to do a bit of editing of the TT before they will work correctly.

Hi Postal, and thanks for the reply. As I'm just starting in the wonderful world of Simsig, timetable editing sounds like a big leap for my ageing brain. In the short term I wondered if somehow putting the signals in the area to manual would solve the problem in the interim? Would welcome advice on timetable editing, but in the short term would equally appreciate gen on working the Kensal area manually in order to solve the reversing prob and carry on with a run through of the timetable as it is. My thanks again for the ongoing tremendous assistance I've received since starting with Simsig.

I have just noticed that on the downloaded sim there seems to be a grey direction arrow missing on the Kensal reversing siding, which is shown on the user guide trackplan. Could this be the answer?

Yes, indeed. Where you would normally click from signal to signal to set the route, you click from signal to grey triangle where a line terminates and there is no signal. If you are using Vista, the missing triangle is a known problem. You can find out more by searching the Forum and the Wiki. As the missing triangle is a result of the way that the Vista and SimSig graphics management conflict, the underlying code is still active. If you click where the triangle should be, the route should set for you.

Thanks again Postal, that suggestion has worked brilliantly! It will also teach me to watch for any other instances of the same thing happening. I do indeed use Vista and wonder if I am causing any ongoing problems while running Simsig? Small glitches like this one are easy to cope with once you know the reason behind it. Grateful thanks again.
