" said:Area of the infamous sign "Strome Ferry (No ferry)"A temporary road and passenger ferry had been introduced before the rail/road was opened. This is what the sign looks like now. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-16574033 Log in to reply |

Pictures from Highland Council: http://www.flickr.com/photos/highlandcouncil/sets/72157628908964901/ This includes this 1990 image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/highlandcouncil/6713588699/in/set-72157628908964901 Interesting as the 1990 arrangement (still under RETB) was essentially a level crossing. Yet come 2012 the same problem was addressed by taking out an engineering token, and of course that cannot be given until the train has reached Kyle or Strathcarron. That makes a huge difference to the road availability as it is a good 30 minutes from the fall to Kyle, and the morning train comes back quite quickly. The rail/road share has just ended, and the road is to open 24 hours from next Monday. Bill Log in to reply |
