It is usually quite simple to port forward on Netgears. There is a lot about port forwarding on the Wiki (have a look here for the basics of why port forwarding is required and then here for a bit more information and links to web-sites which contain specific instructions for setting up port forwarding on most publicly available routers. Note that portforward web-site tries to direct you to a link to buy their automatic set-up software (PFConfig) at a number of stages in the process. However, if you keep searching on each page there is always a link somewhere to the next stage in setting up your router manually, avoiding the need to make an unnecessary purchase. I have a Netgear DG834G and got set up using the portforward guide in less than 10 minutes.

For questions like this which a lot of people will have asked in the past, it is always worthwhile searching the Forum and Wiki rather than hoping that a helpful soul will drop what they are doing and go back over well-worn ground.

I've had a go via teamviewer at trying to port forward for him, it's not like the other netgear firmware which I've used which has the portforward / port triggering menu option.

I suspect his ISP may be blocking him from port forwarding or there is a firewall issue.
