I was just wondering how many people here have become signallers after finding SimSig.

I did, and know that Darren G and Kurt did, but was wondering if there are any more out there.

I should be joining the club soon - just waiting for a start date now. Simsig's no doubt played a big part in my interest, but it really all started with my involvement with preserved railway signalling (North Norfolk and then, more heavily, the GC).

While not working directly for NR, there have been a few occasions where signallers have told me they have played on SimSig.

Indeed, I know of a signaller at Rugby who has been involved in testing various SimSig products. He used to be an announcer at Birmingham New Street during my time there, then went as a signaller to Coventry Coundon Rd and is now at Rugby.

I remember when Leamington became WestCad in 2004 the Westinghouse guy who trained the Signallers in its use suggested to them they could play SimSig for practice, and as far as I recall, at least one of them had a go.

Don't know about Real signallers. But I've noticed that new Signallers avoid doing the hard busy panels by taking sick leave or swapping shifts. The problem is if they never do the busy panels you never find out how much better they are. Like real Simsig. Surely, in UK Power Boxes you don't have this problem?

I dabbled with Simsig and PC rail for a couple of years. I was made redundant in 2006 and became a driving instructor. I didn't settle into that job then wondered about signalling jobs. A search on the Network Rail site and I applied for West Hampstead. Passed signalling school in August 2007 and have been at West Hampstead ever since.
