I am pleased to announce that after 5 years of training and ~100+ turns in the boxes, I have passed my practical and written exams on Darley Dale and Church Lane Crossing boxes at Peak Rail! With thanks to Jack Hinks (former Signalling Manager) who first took me under his wing in 2007, when I was aged just 14, and all the other signallers who trained me, and also to John Patrick (Traction and Train Crew Officer) and Gerry Craft (Signalling Manager) for all the valuable help and support they have given me. I can only guess that T.O.S.B stands for Train Online, Signal Back. No idea on the other two letters. Sam "Signalman Exeter" Log in to reply |

Train Out of Section. Block Indicator Normal. Tis the 1st thing a signalman checks, before accepting a train. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: guidomcc |

Thank you all, I had my first turn in Darley Dale box on my own on Saturday. One minir hiccup, I couldn't pull off signal 5 after the track circuits had been flooded the week before for the Light Engine going to Rowsley, but this cleared afterwards. Apart from that, no trouble at all, and even had my picture taken with an Olympic Torch! All in all, a good day (Formerly known as manadude2) Log in to reply |

" said:" said:No, that's Church Lane Crossing, you may also mean Signal 14 which is on the end of a very long, strangly-routed wire. It also can't be replaced until you replace signal 13 back in the frame - a very odd setup.Thank you all,Darley Dale is the one with the steps right? (Formerly known as manadude2) Log in to reply |

" said:this is due to CL14 being the section signal for the single line, while CL13 is non block and only protects the crossing. the setup is there to prevent either a train running wrong line, or a train emerging from north yard GF from taking a clear signal 13 as the section signal, when it has no such authority.
