Hi all, always up for a challenge. I've just started the supplied TT with SLW between Ely North and Ely West Jcns. This looks like it will get quite hairy. Is there any way of coping with this blockage other than good regulating? I'm just wondering, as I've had Kiln Lane crossing fail on me as well. Feels like a typical Monday morning on the real railway, lol!.

No, you just need to regulate around the problems. There are no magic tricks.

Kiln Lane probably failed because a works train is occupying the strike-in track circuit for too long. In practice the crossing would probably be put under local control.

Agree with Clive, just regulate carefully and think about things before you do them. Don't just see a train approaching and route it as it may be running early and there could be another train running late or not stopping or something like that.

And yes, Kiln Lane (along with another/some other crossings) will fail due to the works trains (or wagons) occupying the strike-in track circuits, but if you are at all concerned by this then you could always start again with a normal session but manually set the closure by collaring signals and locking points as appropriate.

Not sure that will work as there's a whole load of additional stuff like the pilotman that is only enabled by the scenario launch as I understand it.

You're probably confusing the Ely SLW scenario with the SLW at Shepreth Jn, which indeed does have 2 pilotmen for the twin SLW.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Hi all and thanks for the comments and suggestions. So far I've been signalling trains in order of arrival time at Ely, which is proving interesting with platforming but hasn't been too bad so far. The delay minutes are creeping up but I suppose some of those are a knock-on effect especially for trains towards Cambridge which a greater delay at Ely. I think I begin to get a better idea of what real signallers would be up against in a similar real world situation. Cheers, Mal.

Started playing this scenario the other day. I'm enjoying it. Currently up to just after noon using the default TT. Had two main busy times around Ely North Junction so far. One about 8am and the other at roughly 12pm sim time with the two trains running out of and in to (respectively) Ely Papworth Siding while managing the continued through services. I'm running trains to their usual platforms at Ely where indicated but then planning around where no specific platform is indicated. I've delayed some of the Petersborough trains before the Junction since I had up to 15 minutes to spare there allowing me to run the other Ely through services to as close to on-time as scheduled and my system includes using Platform 3 for the diesel services to Norwich via Shippea Hill which don't have specific platform numbers indicated. You have to keep pretty close watch over the 'To Stansted North Junction' and ' To Baldock' lines though for the level crossings because you don't want to unnecessarily delay the trains.
