I have long been a fervent fan of SimSig and have long enjoyed playing the simulations. I have even been an active participant in the forum. All of my previous posting have been constructive and have never been personal towards anybody. I cannot say the same in return as some of the postings I have received have been downright personally abusive. So much for democracy! Simsig likes to pride itself upon a significant amount of realism and I have frequently offer my services to this end. I have worked over 30 years in the rail industry - especially in the North Lincolnshire area. So... why do I make this posting? I note from the rankings that I have a "karma" of MINUS 58!!!! Nobody else seems to have a karma anywhere near this level, so it must be a degree of unpopularity. I suppose I shall have to become a "Yes Sir No Sir Three Bags Full Sir!" person then and become a mute person with no opinions or idea allowed to be expressed. As I said... so much for democracy! there has been much lower karma, no names mentioned... on a serious note, i wouldnt let it get you down, from what i can see your comments have been taken on constructively by the dev team. "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply The following users said thank you: JamesN, guidomcc |

Me personally think that the 'Karma' need to be removed. It is pointless and when people get a minus it upsets them for obvious reasons. No-one needs to be unpopular on SimSig. Everyone is together and work as a team here. I think karma is putting people down and therefor this post has been made. It needs to be removed before people start thinking they are being left out or no-one likes them. Everyone should help each other and work together.

I assure you, as an occasional/semi-regular visitor to the site, there is at the very least one member which I specifically know that has a much, much... much lower karma than you. Went down like ten points a day! But anyway, don't get too hung up about it, it is what it is and unless you can attribute your lost karma to something in particular that you could perhaps improve then there really isn't much more that you can do (for all you know it could be one person being a serial pest [it happens, remember, this is the internet]). If you really are genuine and helpful then, over time, the regulars will know it and as long as posters don't start actively avoiding you then I don't think there's anything to really be worried about. Mickster66 I wouldn't let it worry mate. It's clear from your postings that you obviously know what you are talking about. Like you I have had over 20 years on the railways, some of which dealing with the North Lincolnshire area. What I tend to find that there are some people who think they are experts in knowing the workings of an area purely by the fact that they sit by the railway line observing trains, whereas some of us have worked the area from an official capacity. Yet they question from time to time what you say, as if you don't know what you are talking about. My opinion is that its there loss. As for the 'Larma' thing, its not something I take any notice of.

Democracy tends to work if you get what you want and not if you don’t….. Just ask the Irish…… I believe you can only submit Karma once per person per period of time, not sure how long that period is. Though Mods and Admin can click away as much as they like….. you work that one out historically. As to the benefit or otherwise of the thing it’s something the Admin team can review. I don't pay particular attention to it really. I'll post constructive, helpful things and I don't need a meter to tell me how well I'm doing - I'm sure the admins will tell me!

There is one user with somewhere in the region of -800 karma, and I am fairly certain there are a couple more with three figure negative scores.

Hi Mickster66. I'm like you, ex-railway background and love Simsig. I ask questions on here if I'm stuck and always get excellent help, and I try to do the same for other users.I do make relevant comments on any thread I find of interest, but I take no notice at all of 'karma', I just enjoy the whole Simsig experience. So much for democracy!Sorry Mick but you're only a bronze medalist in the negative Karma category - and even the silver placing has more than ten times your score. There are another 19 people with negative scores. But joking aside, I'm sure your comments are appreciated by the developers and timetable writers. I'm not sure what's happened in the past to make you feel that way. Often, insider knowledge like yours makes the difference between a game and a simulation. Sometimes, due to limitations of what can be achieved within the core code and data structures, perfection cannot be achieved. All I can say is please keep helping, bearing in mind the above. I've not said much here so far, or in the South Humberside topic which came before it, but I've felt in a similar position before now, and things do seem to go in fits and starts for me and my perception within the SimSig community. I didn't say anything publically about the South Humbs topic, but I will now, and that is that I think some people were a bit harsh on you Mick. For someone involved in the project, but still on the outside compared with others, I find any "inside" assistance most valuable, especially as I often find myself trying to interpret things! From my part, I welcome any input, and I (together with Chris particularly, but also with relevant others) do my best then to translate the direct input onto something that can work in SimSig. As has been said, it can sometimes be difficult when it's so clear in my mind that something is not correct, but getting that translated into SimSig can sometimes be frustrating. The biggest thing with South Humberside is that we have had many updates since the original release, and there are still others to be implemented. It's quite difficult to know what to put when something gets commented on which has been fixed, although you can't know it's been fixed. I can't really say anymore, but I'll probably be shot down in flames for putting this much, but that's my take on the situation. I use to pay attention to it but after mine kept going into the - for no reason so now i do not pay attention to it. Look at the admins they spend time looking after the forum and they only have low scores How does that work. My honest thoughts is it is utter pointless. The Thank you Is a better Idea or "Thank you this was helpful" Or "not" but on a post not agaist a person as it does make you feel s**t and make you wonder why I hardly post in the forum And I think i got a -20 over 3Posts. Really dont let it get to you Log in to reply |
