Uploading Saved Simulations 29/08/2012 at 16:25 #35264

Hello, I am seriously inept at writing timetables, but still wish to contribute in a small way to the SimSig community, so I figured that by uploading some saved games I could do this, but I've encountered some difficulties.

Basically the page where you upload a saved sim tells me this:

Quote:
Zip the .SSG and .SSR files up together (you do not need the timetable) and upload as a single package
Now the .SSG file I can find easily enough, but the .SSR seems to elude me, what is it, and where do I find it?

Also, what should I put in the "author" part of the submission form, the original TT authors name or my own?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a file called example.ssg then there should be a file next to it called example.ssr. Older simulations didn't have an SSR file.

As for author, the saved file is your contribution so it should have your name. If you think about it logically, you're including a timetable written by somebody, from code written by me and Clive, on an operating system written by Microsoft, so should you credit all those?! No! However, in the download description you could note that the timetable was supplied by whoever.

I think you have it back to front. Originally the timetable rules were saved separately (in the SSR file) when a game was saved. At some point you and I agreed that there was no point in this, so the whole game state got put into the SSG file. So current sims don't have an SSR file.

(Yes, I've just checked the source code.)

I'd forgotten about that. Not really back to front though as rules were introduced later, so the very first sims didn't have an SSR, later ones did, now they don't again.
