Hi. I'm thinking of giving timetable writing a go. All of my ideas so far (e.g. CScot Sunday service, or simplified CScot for single players) seem to already exist. So - I wondered if there were any timetables that people would like to see? From what I can see TT writing is a slow and methodical task and therefore I'd rather work on something that might ultimately be considered worth having! Alternatively - given my home town is Carlisle - if I can be of any help with the ongoing development of that sim or it's timetables then I'd definitely be up for that. Thanks for any thoughts Tim Log in to reply |

How about a Saltley timetable based during the 1999 Proof House Juction blockade when all trains from Deby and Leicester went via Camp Hill, Lifford and Selly Oak into New Street

Thanks for the replies. They are both interesting! Actually they lead to a question! Obviously when writing modern time tables the OpenTrainTimes website and the NR timetables are great reference sources and even contain freight. Does anyone have any tips for where to gather source data when writing historical timetables? Log in to reply |

The RCTS also have a library with a comprehensive collection of old WTTs which you can access if you join. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following user said thank you: settlecarlisle |

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Last edited: 22/09/2012 at 18:30 by AndyG Log in to reply |

Just checked - it does - "Derby Lines - Landor to New Street Closed". However thinking about it that presumably leaves you with a normal timetable and the route closed which is at best unrealistic, at worst impossible! 318 of the 1292 trains in the timetable pass through that junction, and most trains allow 3 minutes for the move in the WTT. I haven't measured it but it looks like a 20 minute diversion at a minimum. I'm sure there would have been other changes for the duration to keep total number of trains at New Street viable. By coincidence I lived in Coventry at the time, and I somehow remember that Euston to New Street via Northampton terminated at B'ham International during the blockade, it must have upset a family member or something to still be lodged in memory now! If I can find a definitive list of the modified workings I might still decide to have a crack at this, albeit using the current 2009 timetable as a starting point for now. Log in to reply |

They are both interesting! The National Archives cover everything that eventually became BR - pre-1921 grouping, Big Four and then BR all the way to 1993: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/browser.asp?CATLN=1&CATID=241&GPE=False&DOWN=FALSE&MARKER=922&MARKERSCN= I doubt any have been scanned, so you'll need to go down yourself to view them - photography is allowed (encouraged, even) and visiting is free, so you can "scan" them yourself, but be aware they have fairly strict rules - not unfair, but things like using flash are forbidden: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/visit%5Cdefault.htm. Alternatively, you could request they scan it for you - but seeing as they quoted over £2000 to do one years' worth of GWR timetables (they charge per page and WTTs have lots of pages, y'see), you may be better off doing it yourself! With regards to an early 1980s timetable for South Humberside Birchy74. I intend on doing one when Chris has finally sorted out the 1980s era mode track alterations for that sim. He is still working on the modern era as far as I know at the moment.

I think we'll start a new thread for the Proof House Junction blockade to gather information there, and get this one back to any other timetables people would like to see. Thanks

He is still working on the modern era as far as I know at the moment. Both eras have been worked on significantly, and indeed both eras are still very much being worked on. It looks like there have been other obsticles put in the way in recent times, which are requiring more urgent and significant work to overcome. I can't comment any further, as nobody has managed to tell me yet, and I'm supposed to be helping with the work! I suggest this one may be a waiting game. Unfortunately, a number of locations were missing from the originally released sim which would be required to facilitate an early 80's TT. God bless, Daniel Wilson Log in to reply |
