I think you mean a Cl.52 'Western' Alistair, not a Cl.53 as that was 'Falcon'.

The "Dead" Western looks like it's outside Swindon Works and my guess would be D1062 Western Courier which was completely overhauled by the apprentices in 1977 before going to the Severn Valley Railway

D1062 Western Courier as overhauled in Maroon with half yellow warning panels. Currently being restored to this livery at the SVR

This loco could often be seen moving under its own power next to "A" Shop opposite the main line at Swindon Works after overhaul prior to its departure to the SVR. This was long after the official withdrawal date of the class.

Interesting picture there of the Gloucester line side sidings. The Class 411 (4 BEP/CEP) Kent Coast stock was being refurbished at the time and would quite often bring a class 33 to Swindon dragging the units from the Southern to be overhauled. They would turn up at all times of the day even a Saturday evening
