I've tried to copy & paste the photo into the body of the post, but can't do that & the image tab doesn't seem to do what it did in the old forum so I think you'll have to download the image. I said in an earlier post that I didn't think I had another photo of 8M06 King's Lynn - Derby St. Marys seasonal limestone train, but I was wrong. Here's a photo I took on 14-10-87 of 47187 passing Whitemoor Junction with 8M06 0940 TFO COY King's Lynn - Derby St. Marys.

This photo is of 08631 hauling some loaded bogie P.Way track carriers with redundant track panels for Chesterton Junction, near Cambridge. This working ran during the early shift between Whitemoor Yard & the yards at March East Junction also serving Marcrofts wagon repair depot at March East which today is used by GHRf for servicing their locos. Date 09-07-87

This is a photo I took one morning of the entrance to March TMD during a week of idustrial action involving a dispute with guards & as a result the NUR decided to take industrial action. No freight trains were running & I ended up using a whole roll of film(36 photos) taking photos of all the locos on March TMD as this proved to be the day I saw the most locos stabled on the depot during the 18 months I worked there.

IIRC one weekend in 1988 I was working in Whitemoor TOPS office & loco 59005 had been offloaded from the ship that had brought it across the Atlantic Ocean. 59005 was being hauled from the docks at Parkeston Quay to Derby RTC by 31207. It was booked to recess at March East Jn for approx. an hour or so. I went down there to take some photos of it. There was a chap who had travelled with the loco from the USA & he had started the engine up to charge the batteries etc. You will notice that there isn't even a loco number on the side. IIRC the consist was running under the TD of 0Z59. The loco was required to go to Derby RTC prior to it running on BR metals under it's own power in traffic until Derby RTC had conducted an inspection of the traction unit.

On another occasion I walked down to March Down Yard to take some photos close up of a pair of Hunslet Barclay privately owned Cl.20s on one of there weed killing trains. 20904 at the front & 20901 at the rear. These pictures were taken before these locos received their names. You will also note the battery operated tail lamps positioned in each of the driving cabs.

Another 3 photos I took during 1988 of some trains around Whitemoor Yard.
1. This picture shows 31186 working 9H77 Whitemoor Yard - cambridge Yard. This train is the return working of 9H76 Cambridge Yard - Whitemoor Yard. This train tended to convey departmental traffic as well as some speedlink wagons on occasions as it calls at Chesterton Junction yard in both direction.
2. This photo shows 31308 rounding the curve from March station to March Whitemoor Junction & is about to go under Norwood Road bridge. This train is the return afternoon Norwich - Whitemoor speedlink service. The 2 axle wagons behind the loco are loaded with grain bound for the scottish whisky distrillers. The loco number is 31308.
3. This photo was taken from outside Whitemoor TOPS office shows 47147 prior to departing with 6S71 1930 SX SLK Whitem, oor Yard - Mossend. Again behind the loco are bogie polybulk wagons loaded with grain for the scottish whisky distillers. This train predominantly conveyed these types of wagons everyday during the summer & if this train was over subsctibed then other loaded polybulk would go to Donvaster Belmont Yard on 6E13 or they would run an additional service as the number of wagons loaded with grain could be very high.

Another 3 photos from March THD & Whitemoor Yard taken in 1988.
1. 37185 at March TMD on 16-04-1988.
2. 37251 outside Whitemoor TOPS office at the head of 6E16 Duxford - Tees Yard speedlink service during the summer of 1988.
3. 47487 in 'Inter-City' livery outside March TMD in 1988. This loco left the area working the empty stone wagons from Ely - Peak Forest. I've got another photo of this engine working through March station with that train. Although March was predominantly a freight depot there were on occasions ETH loco claasses such as Cl.31/4 or Cl.47/4 stabled on depot. These were usually ETH locos that were transferred from passenger or parcels pools to various freight pools, as rolling stock was split up into sectors from 1988 onwards.

I scanned over the weekend the photos I took around March TMD during an industrial dispute involving the NUR. IIRC this was around the spring of 1989 possibly April not as I previously stated as 1988.
The first photo shows 20137 'Murray B. Hofmeyr' stabled in the loco holding sdgs. At this time this loco was allocated to Thornaby TMD.
2. 31125 stabled on the loco holding sdgs at March TMD in the company of other classmates.
3. 31135 stabled around the back of the main maintenance shed at March TMD.

1. 37072 March TMD summer 1989
2. 37178 March TMD summer 1989. You can see the Stratford TMD 'Cockney Sparrow' shed emblem on the side of this loco.
3. 37222 inside the 2 road inspection shed at March TMD. You can also see the loco fuel point in front of this building in the photo. This loco at this time was allocated to Cardiff Canton TMD & was allocated to work Speedlink Coal Network trains such as Toton - Hythe/Colchester or Broxbourne or Toton - Whitemoor & return empties. Speedlink Coal Network services generally used 2 axle HEA wagons.

1. 37252 in RfD livery stabled behind 37072 at March TMD.
2. Silver roofed 47005 stabled at March TMD. This loco at this time was allocated to Tinsley TMD, although at some stage previous was allocarted to Stratford TMD as Stratford TMD was famous for painting the roofs of its Cl.47s silver.
3. 47190 in the new Trainload Petroleum livery & named 'Pectinidae'. Several Crewe Diesel Cl.47s alloacted to work petrolum trains out of Stanlow refinery were named after shells. This loco is stabled on the loco holding sdgs.

1. 47120 stabled at March TMD. This loco was seen regualrly at Marcg TMD as it used to work between the Sc.R & Anglia on overnight speedlink services from either Millerhill or Mossend yards & would return in the evening on either 6S96, 6S93 or 6S71. This loco was originally an Eastfield loco & named 'RAF Kinloss'. In this photo this loco belonged to RfD & allocated to Tinsley TMD.
2. 47211 stabled at March TMD. This loco has a special place for me as it was the first Cl.47 I went on when I started on the footplate in mid 1985. I was secondman on a move of this loco plus 45006 from Cricklewood TMD to Leicester SD. We made the mistake of having this loco leading. Cl.47s were notorious for having very poor cab heaters unlike Cl.45s. It was the end of October & it was a foggy night we set off & I remeber going through Bedford (platform 3) & despite all the cab heaters being switched on you could feel the cold. By the time we arrived on Leicester looc my teeth were literally chattering. It was freesing on that engine. Our mate on the Cl.45 however was as snug as a bug in a rug.
3. 47285 another Tinsley based RfD loco stabled at March TMD.

There were a pair of named Cl.56s stabled in front of the main maintenance shed at March TMD during this day of the dispute. Both locos named & in Trainload Constructionlivery. They were 56062 'Mountsorrel' & 56063 'Bardon Hill'.
As you can see the depot had quite a number of locos stabled on it during this industrial dispute. The only other times you'd get as many locos on shed during one visit would be at a weekend before locos are sent out to work weekend engineering trains.

1. The old order 37519+37517 approaches Barnetby station with 6K21 Santon - Immingham Ore Terminal empties. Prior to the introduction of Cl.60 locos these trains were worked by pairs of Cl.37s. During this period you could get a mixture of both until more Cl.60 locos were accepted to traffic. A year after this picture was taken all the iron ore trains would have been worked by Cl.60 locos alllowing for even longer trains as Cl.60 loco had a higher loading than pairs of Cl.37 locos.
2. 37506 'British Steel Skinningrove' passes Wrawby Jn with with empty BBA wagons working 6G48 Tinsley - Immingham Recp.
3. 31558 leads a rake of departmental wagons into the Down Goods Yard at Wrawby Jn with one of Immingham's departmental trip services.

This time a couple of photos of Cl.56 locos passing Wrawby Jn light engine. IIRC these locos were a change over of the Scunthorpe CHP discharging engine. There was a diagram for a Cl.56 loco to be at Scunthorpe CHP all day & night which attached it self to the loaded MGR trains & then took them through the CHP(Coal Handling Plant) to discharge the coal & then take the empties back to the reception sdgs where the book loco that brought the loaded train there would then take the empties back to Immingham to load. THE CHP loco returned to Immingham TMD for fuel or if a fault develped on the loco it was swapped or on Saturday afternoons/Sunday evenings where the service of MGR train ended or before it started.
1. 56126 returning to Immingham TMD from Scunthorpe.
2. 56066 running from Immingham TMD to Scunthorpe CHP.
