I'd have to agree with headshot119 there, in fact that looks like ywo class 58s on the same road. Interesting that there's a shed in front of them. I should know what those 2 class 58s are as I used to deal with Knottingley locos from 1996 to 2001 & the 1st class 66 (66004) came to Toton in 1997 for crew training. We didn't really keep class 58s at Knottingley as they did in the trainload coal days. Good picture nonetheless. The class 58s migrated south to Eastleigh depot once the class 66s came on stream & with more & more coal trains being covered by sets of HTAs with buckeye couplings & less & less MGR sets they had no work left in the Yorkshire & East Midlands. I'd say the picture was taken before 2001 & probably from 1998, anywhere between those years.

It's a bone chief. Or to most people a class 58!
Exactly what I thought, too. If I'm not mistaken, the two bonneted machines are a 37 and a 44/45/46. I hadn't realised that there was an overlap between the withdrawl of 58's and the introduction of 66's. Unless, the 58 is stored, withdrawn, and awaiting transfer to Toton.

Class 58s were in traffic up to 2005 on the BR network. They were all re-allocated to Eastleigh depot in 2000/2001, a big mistake by EWS if you ask me & within 4 years they were all gone. Considering in the mid 1990s they were the best type 5 we had by quite a large margin. A very sad day when they finished in traffic & that was the final nail in the coffin for me. Probably in the same sense as those who like steam felt when the diesels took over.

58050, 2x 58's???? I thought there were 5 different classes. Two with bonnets, coupled(?) together. A 58, to the left. A 56(?), in the centre and a 66, to the right.

Not being a diesel type of person I had thought 58's were withdrawn a lot earlier than that.

I've just zoomed that image as large as I can get it & it would appear looking at the roof details that you are correct & I've got it wrong. The loco standing at the Knottingley fueller is definately a Cl.58, the loco in front of it is a Cl.56 & also looks withdrawn from traffic like the Cl.58. The other 2 locos looking at the roof detail is a Cl.37 nearest to the shed & a Cl.45 on top of it, judging by the exhaust port, although the radiator fan grill is missing. This picture was taken after 2001 as I don't recall there being a 'Peak' stabled on Knottingley TMD whilst I was doing the power for Yorkshire & Humberside. I left the power control in 2001 to go to Bescot so it must have been taken after I left. Also if you look at the depot it is completely void of locos & may suggest the picture was taken after the closure of Gascoigne Wood Colliery.

Is that Ozzy's brother. It can't be any relation to George Osborne, MP for Tatton and Chancellor of the Exchequer.

56014 stands at the head of a loaded MGR train bound for Ratcliffe power station on Toton New Bank sdgs. For those of you with a keen eye there are two Cl.08 oukits in this photo. The Cl.08 next to 56014 is Trip No.2 Toton New Bank pilot & the Cl.08 in the background coupled to the brake van is Trip No.1 Toton Inter-Yard pilot. The 'Stowage' van as it was called was permananetly coupled to the Cl.08 covering this Trip as it worked trips to all of the yards at Toton, Toton TMD, TW Wards & Stapleford & Sandiacre ballast sdgs. Photo taken 100787.

58034 'Bassetlaw' moves off from a crew change on the Up Fast line at Bedford in 1986 with a special Oxcroft - Ridham Dock MGR train. Bedford driver Joe Jakes is driving the train to Cricklewood Recess Sdgs, then he will bring the Cl.58 LE back to Bedford as no Southern Region traincrews signed Cl.58s at this time. The train would go forward from Cricklewood Recess sdgs with either a pair of Cl.73s or a Cl.56.
