1V66 in the 1985 timetable has a really funny timetable. The leading digit, 1, tells me it’s a passenger train. The timetable shows it’s scheduled to stop for pickup/dropoff at Taunton from 11:43 to 11:45… but there’s no platform specified! That’s kind of weird for a passenger train, isn’t it? To stop at a station but not be able to tell the passengers waiting to board at which platform the train is stopping?

if it has a set down time, it will be set down only, ie it only stops to allow passengers off. it will not be advertised at taunton for passengers to board, hence it doesnt matter where it stops (as long as its a platform of course). if not then the platform allocation would be REG or regulated as required, so the signalman decides the most appropriate platform at the time (a few of these in carlisle).

regards the class 1 being passenger trains, dont forget Postal and priority mail also runs as class 1

Ahhh, I suspect it may have been parcels. I forgot about that. I don’t think it was specced as setdown only because I thought those had a colon in the arrival time but a slash in the departure time, while this train had a colon in both columns. Thanks!

Given that a quick look at the front (Train Details) tab of the TT for 1V66 shows it as 06:30 Bradford I - Paignton (HST) it is clearly not a mail or parcels.

set down times have the format 00d00 not 00/00.

i havent got access to the tt as i am at work, but as postal says, if its a HST, is not NPCCS, its a pass service, in which case the author has either ommitted the platform as an error, or no platform is given as it is non advertised.

Looking at the Working TT 1V66 is indeed booked for an HST with booked arr/dep times of 1143/1145 (no set down/pick up indicated). I suspect the platform number is missing, as at that time the centre platforms at Taunton were not in regular use ,so it should be plat 2

OK, that clears it up. I knew how to see the short textual description, but I didn’t know how to interpret it, so didn’t know whether it might still be a mail train. I guess an item to add to the checklist for the next timetable update
