There is occasional debate in the forum about London Underground so I thought these pictures might be of interest. The attached one is actually the Control Room for the Metropolitan, Circle and H&C lines - signalling control being in a separate room. The links take you to the Signalling Control Room and also the Service Control Centre for the Bakerloo line where the Line Controller and Signaller operate from the same room using the same equipment. http://www.flickr.com/photos/llangollen_signalman/sets/72157632667122805/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/llangollen_signalman/sets/72157632667122805/ Post has attachments. Very familiar to me, given that I generally sit where my colleague in the white shirt is sat! (I'm just trying to work out who it is - funny how you can work with someone for years yet not know what they look like from behind!) I spent 10 years working in the Met Line Signalling Centre as well. EDIT: The main picture must have been taken a while ago. The telephones have been replaced, and a few other bits of kit have been dumped on the already cluttered desk. The makeshift draught excluder has been removed from the air-con unit on the ceiling as well! Last edited: 02/02/2013 at 13:25 by metcontrol Log in to reply |

Been a few years since the visit (end of 2009), but I think he might have been Scottish. He wasn't the duty controller - I can't remember the exact term but I think he was the Duty Service Line Manager (or Controller). Very interesting place, with more taking place in Control rather than the Signalling Side as a few lines were closed for engineering work and what was running was on auto. We didn't see the District Line control as they were busy with a failed set of points and a failed train. Last edited: 02/02/2013 at 13:26 by Andrew G Log in to reply |

Ah that explains why I couldn't place the person - he was a "Service Manager" who is the person who is "one level" up from us (The Line Controllers / Service Controllers). Us on the Met would've still let you in with failures - different calibre of controller on the Met (this comment should instantly weed out any of my District counterparts who may be sitting quietly in the background - the Met/District rivalry is still strong after well over 100 years ) Log in to reply |
