There have bee a few excursions to Lincoln this week, may have been stock for one of them. There was an A4 at Ferme Park for yesterday's train. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

I've since seen it reported that the VSOE passed through Welwyn at around 10.20 this moring going North. 67002 and 67008 front and rear respecively. Report does not say where it was going, but I believe Lincoln for the Christmas fayre. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Hmm, there was 1Z82 08:45 Victoria - Lincoln with the VSOE which called at Finsbury Park 09:47 - 09:48, however, it was a down train not an Up. I can't see any record of anything on the Up.

Noel, That makes more sense to me, did seem rather tight for a UP train to get to KX and back to Welwyn in the times given. Petet I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

I believe this is also the intended route (London to Lincoln via Newark) of the East Coast Lincolns in December 2010. Log in to reply |

Am I right in thinking you could also come off at Grantham, round the Allington Chord and then hook a left at Sleaford and thence Up to Lincoln?

ajax103 said:There was at one time a suggestion that someone wanted to run London-Lincoln and London-Grimsby via Spalding to avoid ECML pathing problems - this was possibly at the time that various train operators were going to court over the availability of ECML paths. London-Grimsby via Spalding was dependant on the Lincoln resignalling, because the old layout of Pelham St Jn didn't allow trains to reverse in service at Lincoln. Either idea would be a very slow and trundly trip. Back in the day, of course, trains could turn off the ECML at Barkston and run straight to Lincoln via Navenby et al; that was before the Newark chord was built, in any case. Log in to reply |

I think it was the GN franchise holder (WAGN?) that was talking about a Lincoln via Spalding service at one time. There is now an EMT St Pancras to Lincoln service (via Newark castle I presume)- not sure what the frequency is. I believe there is a Draft December 2010 ECML timetable somewhere that has a KX- Lincoln service in it. ECT website refers to it but the link just goes to the home page of the OOR's site and I gave up at that point as the search did not produce anything useful. The most recent draft of the Dec 2010 ECML TT I can find (dated 16/10/09) is at http://www.rail-reg.gov.uk/upload/pdf/ecml-nr-scl2-timetable-161009.pdf .
