I'm sure I don't really need to provide any explanation for this YouTube video (the original version....).

The video title translates as "Careful, do not close the door!".
The info below the video translates as "Extreme sports in the metro St. Petersburg".

First came across this video because of this news article on Yahoo! News. (Thread title quoted from Yahoo.co.uk homepage)

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

I certainly would think twice about pulling the chord because if the doors close or whatever during the time you have pulled the chord and the guard arrives or if the guard thinks there was soneother better approach to it then you would be in for a hefty fine...

On the other hand I tried the new "Routemaster" bus today, was quite impressed save that the jobsworth "conductor" was stopping people getting on/off the platform unless at a stop - kind of defeats the object!

In comparison, only done it twice though, but the conductors on two trips didn't mind if it was a stop or not, provided the bus was by a pavement and the vehicle was at a complete stand, it didn't seem to matter.

I was reading about the new buses just last weekend and I read this from the TfL website:
Quote:
Watch your step

When getting on or off using the open rear platform, please only do so when the bus is stationary and watch out for moving traffic.

That infers (at least to me) that you can get on or off anywhere, so I think your conductor was more than a jobsworth!

Looks like I broke the rules by getting on at the rear with my paper season ticket. :doh
