Having just watched a Programme about the lockerbie bombing, I noticed how close to the railway the incident was, and the amount of smoke/ debris spread close to the railway. can anyone remember if this had an effect on rail services, eg a block on the main line and diversions over the GSW? and equally were any special trains arranged to provide access for wreckage removal or to provide access for rescue workers? Now there's something I forgot about. From what I remember of it , it was a horrible scene. I do know the M74 which passes said town had the Southbound Carriageway shut for about a mile with traffic in both directions whittled down to using the Northbound Carriageway whilst recovery/repairs were affected. Now , from what I remember , the railway I'm lead to believe was unaffected although it was probable that it was closed for a short time to give BR and the likes time to see if anything was damaged etc but as far as I am aware , trains were running as normal but during the time whilst the line etc was being inspected , it'd probably have been the case of Passenger services diverted and freight held until the all clear was given. Hope that helps Log in to reply |
